can we pull off 4-2

4-2 beating Duke/NC (looks good on paper) and a win in the ACCT i think gets us to the brink of the tourney. I do think the tournament may give us the tie goes to the runner with SOOOO MANY legacy programs not there this year.

This tournament NEEDS blue blooded teams in this tournament. A tourney without UNC/Duke/Kentucky/Syracuse does take alot of eyeballs away.
We are shy of being a blue blood

I will just say the tourney selection process this year moreso than any other year will be very different / hard to assess. So many data points that are inconsistent not only as a whole in 2021 vs prior years, but from team to team. I very much relied on trends in making assessments in prior years. Just very hard to do this year. Hard to make anything close to a definitive assessment of what Syracuse needs.

I will say as a general point people tend to overrate what Syracuse needs to get in the tourney at this point of year (post 2015). We tend to have squeezed in on March 15th, by accomplishing less than people thought was needed at February 10th.

I will probably start a Bubble Discussion thread shortly for all to discuss. I have less passion for college basketball right now for some reason. The first time it crossed my mind if Syracuse was playing this week was this morning when I saw we won against NC St.
Quality wins are the most important thing this season.

We have wins but only really 1 quality win.
The ACC being down means we need to win these games against Georgia Tech, Louisville and North Carolina.

BC, Notre Dame, and Duke suck.

Seems to be a logical expectation but I am not convinced it will be the case. I think they will balance out the distribution amongst P6 conferences moreso than normal, which will de-emphasize quality wins to an extent. They will certainly be important still.

We know in the past that what has happened is that 2 or 3 conferences do very well in the OOC and that creates a multiplier effect which allows teams in those conferences to get much more quality win opportunities than others.

And a similar thing will happen this year. But it will be caused by much fewer OOC games. The NCAA may have been comfortable with allowing some conferences to get 4/5 teams and some conferences getting 9/10 when there was more OOC Data and more consistent level of OOC games. But now its all over the map. I can see them thinking such an imbalance caused by limited data would be unfair.

ideally:
V.tech continues to do well, moves up a few spots to be in the top 30 of NET (currently about 34 or so)
and/or
NC St. wins enough to move into top 75 of NET (currently about 85 or so)
Then one/both of those become q1 win.

Also- akin to what jncuse is saying - I *think* committee will look at "not-quite technicalities" like our dominating beatdown of VaTech and regard it worthy of q1-win consideration, if VaTech happens to be just outside of top 30

I think the Canceled games and how the committee look at them will be huge, will they say Syracuse had 4 games ppd lville, clem at home and at nd and wake, would they have won 3 of them, or will they not look at that factor at all.

Yes, so stipulated.

The top 4-5 teams (UK, KU, Duke, UNC, and ??) are the Blue Bloods.

We're in the next 4-6 teams, along with Sparty, Llvll, etc.
Still pretty good company. And still VERY desirable for the NCAA and TV eyeballs.

That's like saying that colleges a tier "below" Ivy League aren't as good.
Stanford, MIT, Cal Tech, Northwestern, Vandy, etc. would beg to differ.

fair point we're only a top 6 all time winningest program. Whatever that is we are part of.

The networks will LOVE to have us on tv if we get through round 1 and are playing on NCAA Monday. I suspect the resume building will include "hey those guys are in the ACC" part of the equation.

No way that Duke gets left out - we need to beat them. Personally I think ga tech is the best team left on our schedule.

"Not Brown!"

Since he is in denial and trolling, I'll answer for him. (And I know you know this) He is not even close. If I had to pick 1 player to do without, out of the guys who see action, I'm going with Sidibe. The excuses a few come up with for why we have been mediocre (at best) is comical.
That exemplifies how little you understand our team. Our zone defense is based upon having a rim protector in the paint to reach its full potential. Sidibe does a decent job of that and none of the other guys do it very well, though Marek gives all he's got.

Hahaha - good one. You know very little about our team, or basketball in general, as evidenced by your posts. I'm done feeding you, because that is what you enjoy.

You enjoy dumping on our program while making excuses for other programs.

Likely need to go 5-1 in games remaining and probably 2 wins in ACCT to be able to squeak into the field on Selection Sunday. We have 1 whole win that's worth anything (VaTech).
