Canary in the Coal Mine?

IN my area FIOS iinternet only package starts out as the same price as Preferrred cable package. At this point if I can keep the bill under $250 I"'m happy - which is sad commentary on my life.

i think the value of cable while costly is great.. its the crazy cost of cell phones that bothers me.. $300 a month for something i have to have and use maybe 20 min a month. people watch 2-3 hrs a tv a day and complain about $100-200 a month 7x3x4 its like $1-2 an hr pretty cheap.. on top of stream those same shows over and over

I have a digital rabbit ears, Netflix , fire stick , smart tv and WiFi ...Bill went from 180$ /month too 70$ - 15/net and 50 for WiFi ... Kodi (jailbroke) gets me every thing and more . Live steaming is getting better.

For those interested there are websites out there where if you type in your zip code, it will tell you how many channels you can pick up with a digital antenna. For those who live in the big cities that may not work but for those elsewhere you may be surprised how many channels you could pick up. Couple that with YouTube or something and it is not bad. I am really close to pulling the trigger.

All I need is ESPN lineup of channels (and only during college football/basketball season), TBS, TNT, FXX and TVLand. I rarely watch any other channel. Yet, here I am paying for almost 200 channels!
All i need is a few shows from netflix and I'm paying for 10 billion movies and shows

all i need is the front page and the opinion page and I'm paying for classified and local entertainment

all i need is a squat rack, a bench and some plates and I'm paying for stair climbers and yoga blocks

bundles exist all over the place for good reasons but people have it in their head that they can unbundle cable and save a lot of money

Is Spectrum was getting kicked out of NY? How does that work or happen and what are the options for Spectrum users?

A lot of info in this thread already, thank you.

You can.

What was missing 4-5 years ago were smaller bundles for less money with the channels you actually wanted with no contracts and an easy way to drop and add (no long phone calls with someone trained to make it a slog with constant upselling). It was a simple request and the cable companies missed it.

I’m not anti-bundle. I’m pro-consumer choice.

Competition is good.

The big thing that boosts everyone's bills seems to be data. Check Tracfone. They have a yearly plan that works out to like $15 a month if you stay within their limits. I don't use cell-based data very often (I'll use wiFi whenever possible) and I really don't make or receive that many calls and texts, so it would easily work for me. At the very least, make sure your phone is switching off the provider's cell system and onto to your home's WiFi so you're using it there.

I'm coming late to the party but here are two positive articles. Look at the end of David Teel's nice article in "Daily Press" (Va.) to view relative competitiveness:

One year before launch, ACC Network's challenges clear

and also this one from "Sports Business Journal" about the front end investment which will make the ACC Network launch in 2019 a much higher quality affair than the SEC Network launch in 2014:

Lights. Camera. ACCtion!

Each of them is worth reading - highly recommended!

"Yes, partial ACC member Notre Dame will receive a full network share, as the Fighting Irish should. Their men’s basketball and Olympic programs, plus their five annual football games against ACC colleagues, are that valuable."

Really?

From the point of view of a nationwide viewing audience, I would guess. The FSU-ND and Clemson-ND FB games were big ones for the ACC. Not an ND fan myself, but their presence helped with the launch, plus their men's and women's BB teams and women's track team have been really good lately. They still receive only a portion of ACC football money and no ACC bowl money. Their "full share" has been baked in for several years from what I read previously. The good news is that the ACC Network launch is ALL SYSTEMS GO!

Just moved to Brandenton Florida. Sign up with Spectrum. I’m on the screening plan . I get to choose 10 channels and they throw in some other ones that I don’t necessarily watch. So I picked ESPN ESPN2 Fox for us. They don’t offer ESPNU as part of package. But I have a smart TV and hopefully I can add ESPN watch as an app. I gotta A dog and a six pack and if I can watch Syracuse football and basketball wish me luck

Tend to agree, prorate it. Especially since i am sure some of those 5 acc games are at home, which are televised by nbc, which means not contributing to acc network revenues

That story is a lot to do about nothing. That will be a legal battle that will last many years and NY State cannot win that battle in court.

I could easily be wrong, but I believe the ACCN fees that are being discussed here are completely separate from the football TV rights fees. If that is so, then they do have teams in the sports that determine ACCN fees and deserve a full share. AMOF, they have more teams participating in the ACC than some of the full members do. I know UVa hasn't played FSU in MLax or WLax. Has SU?
