Carmelo Anthony and his role in NIL

I did about 17 seconds of research on this topic, but it seems we aren’t really talking about the possible NIL benefits of Carmelo Anthony supporting the team. I am coming from an actual business perspective for him and his businesses, not merely him dipping into his own pockets to buy players for his son to compete with.

On the topic of Carmelo Anthony “stepping up,” as one of you put it… Google says Carmelo Anthony has 10 separate companies, all of which could be legit marketing opportunities for old school NIL payments that don’t amount to him paying for guys out of his pocket to play with his son.

Anthony is currently in consumer goods (among other things) including, clothing, wine, cannabis and cigars. Any or all of them are good potential links for NIL that actually are business savvy, not merely what amount to donations to the school.

Unfortunately, in regards to Freeman potential return to Syracuse next season, the optics of giving a kid from the Bahamas a cannabis spokesman gig might be a nonstarter. Or it could be huge publicity, under the idea “no press is bad press.” Similar problems come to mind with cigars or wine for a kid under legal drinking age…

Dig a little deeper on what Kiyan owns for his clothing brands and his social media presence. Also the connections LaLa has. That family is into some stuff not just melo. These are people that when they call the phone gets answered.

I was just thinking beyond the typical “Carmelo is rich, he’ll pay players to come to Syracuse” type comments.

He has a few business that could get actual value from NIL deals, in addition to helping the program.

He and his family and their connections can absolutely take legitimate advantage of celebrities/players endorsing their offerings. It's the primary reason I have been adamant about not messing him up by getting rid of Red

I think a wine brand should be able to see the value in partnering with SU basketball. I imagine many Cuse hoops fans enjoy watching the Orange with one (or more) open bottles of an alcoholic beverage within reach.

Did Cuse just allow another straight-line drive resulting in an easy dunk/layup?

if dad wants to spend a little coin to give kiyan some playmates. ok.
but that's short term indulgence. long term a really bad investment .
