Straughn was a great hire. Think he gets pigeonholed as a recuriter because he’s an elite recruiter but he brings much more then that

Didn't Hodgson recruit Freeman to Alabama? I think he was still there at the time?

One, I don't believe he pushed his son to play for Syracuse. That was his son's choice all the way. Second, if we keep Brendon S on the staff, I think we can keep White. You can get Melo's opinion but JW and a team have to make the choice. We once asked a football expert in Pete Carroll for advice. That didn't work out so well for us. Of course, neither has Red

Red has next year to figure it out or he won't be the coach and JW will do a national search. At that point I'm sure Melo and others will be asked for input.

Lets be honest, many of us are afraid of a mass exodus of any current talent on the roster that can return, along with the next recruiting class, if a new hire happens. This is a situation where the next recruiting class is top priority, aside from finding a decent coach.

That being said, I think Wildhack needs to go to Carmelo and ask, who is our guy? Who can come in and prioritize his son, Sadiq White, and the top talent on this team, while also being a top tier coaching option this program can move forward with? Carmelo needs to have a say in this matter. He is the best NBA talent to ever come out of this program, and his son is a gem in the next class who I'm sure he pushed to come here. Why would he want his son to play for someone who can't coach? He should use his influence and help as best he can, for the sake of this program as well as his son's future.

Nobody should be afraid of losing anyone currently on the roster… they’re all replaceable it’s an awful team. As much as I’d like starling to stick around and Donnie to come back and continue to develop, nobody is irreplaceable

He's not a good coach. He's a grown man who can't coach. This season is all the evidence we need to see what he can and can't do. He's been in this for three decades and all of a sudden one year is going to change all of that?

The only way Donnie is staying at Cuse is if the money is competitive. I can't believe that he has strong enough ties, with the way his season, and the team's season has gone that he would give a discount. Maybe he and JJ will develop something over the remainder of the season but it feels like his talent is being wasted.

Has discretionary income to burn.

Has already donated a decent amount to the basketball program to claim ownership of the practice facility that bears his name.

Assumedly has already a good working relationship with the AD, Chancellor, the BOT and the basketball staff.

Has a vested interest in next year's team (take it as a pro or a con) but he, like everyone else, with less ties to the program, wants what's best for Syracuse University, not necessarily what's best for Kiyan Anthony. There is nothing to suggest this will be a LeBron/Bronny situation.

The portal is more important than HS recruits. Unless you are a one and done talent you can develop a year or two at Syracuse and then take a big pay day at Duke.
The portal changes you immediately as opposed to having to develop high schoolers for several years.

We need a guy who can identify the best portal talent and bring them here.

I honestly haven’t looked at either of them
at this point. It’s so far out. But I believe you. Not many high schoolers are ready to make the jump and contribute right away. We’ve had many top guys take a while to develop and some never did.

I think Sadiq's best hope is he provides an OG Anunoby impact for us (minus OG's improved offensive game). Guard, be athletic, bring energy - we need all of that.

Not everyone has to be a shooter. If he decides to be an in your face defender on one end and then plays with a mean streak and determines that anyone in his way will get dunked on on the offensive end, he can help us. We need some athletic physical dogs. We have been sissy, weak, pushovers far too much the last few years.
