Hey, he thrived under George Karl and I’m sure everyone who’s played for Karl wants to murder him
Fair point.

I don't know. He was young at that point. Winning helps a lot of things. If he wins under Brown, maybe he buys in to his style.Detroit clearly should have picked him for their own longevity (imo).
At the same time, I think Melo and Larry Brown may have actually gotten into a fistfight.

Melo should've won ROY, but the LeBron hype machine was already in full effect. And that's not to suggest LBJ didn't deserve it either.Very possible. His offensive toolbox was pretty full even as a rookie. It was still quite something how Melos arrival to this day spurred one of the biggest turnarounds in a single season. His first 3 years the team he had around him was a big woof.
Iverson was an interesting addition but even then until they put together that team in 08-09 it was pretty impressive they kept making the post season.
Their stats were pretty similar other than LeBron having significantly more assists, but Melo’s team made the playoffs in the more difficult West.Melo should've won ROY, but the LeBron hype machine was already in full effect. And that's not to suggest LBJ didn't deserve it either.
Agree.Their stats were pretty similar other than LeBron having significantly more assists, but Melo’s team made the playoffs in the more difficult West.
There was precedent for splitting the award, as Jason Kidd and Grant Hill shared it in ‘95. That’s probably what they should’ve done in ‘04.
I should add that in 13/14, Melo finished runner-up for the scoring title. Just to reiterate, he was NOT ALL-NBA that year. In 2010/11, Melo finished third in scoring while adding 7.5 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Once again, not all-NBA. Like I said: asinine.
Man, when Melo was "on", he was absolutely unstoppable. Inside, outside, midrange, 3's, footwork, bully ball, you name it. Maybe Top 5 hardest guard ever.Kiyan shared this one...
(Swipe to see some clips from that game.)
He was also an amazing fit for the NBA he entered into and it’s kind of a shame he wasn’t a few years younger. He stayed good the entire time but he was better suited to the league he joined than the Steph Curry 3 ball oriented one at the end.I don't know. He was young at that point. I wouldn’t say him and Sheed were the same position back then though. Melo eventually became more of a 4 later in his career. But at that point he was a pure SF. And Sheed was a PF who could play C.He was also an amazing fit for the NBA he entered into and it’s kind of a shame he wasn’t a few years younger. Melo on the Pistons would have been amazing even having an elite player at the same position in Rasheed Wallace wouldn’t have mattered you find a way when your that good. Sure egos might have limited longevity.
He falls into the category of doing the most with the least thought as far as teammates go dragging lotto teams to the playoffs every year. He should have done a Lebron and gone to New York as a free agent and recruited a couple guys not let the Nugs strip their best assets.
