Carmelo tonight

Thing is, Nuggets like the Hawks have tons of depth. Thats fine and dandy but they will NEVER win a championship. You need stars and for as bad as the Knicks have looked we are way closer to winning a Championship than the Nuggets.

I definitely think there is something to that, and I don't want to bag on them too much right now, but we feel a looooooong way from contending for a title. The Nugs had Melo for what, 8 years and got out of the first round once or twice? The fact that we're anxiously awaiting Baron's return...

I disagree completely on the fact that the Knicks are closer than the Nuggets to winning a Championship. Amar'e is not a player you can win a title with. Carmelo hasn't proven to be either in the NBA. Give me the Nuggets depth, ball movement, defense, and top 9 players over the Knicks any day of the week.

Melo has been out of the first round ONCE in his career. One time. The Nuggets even got pasted by the Clippers one season in the first round.

After 8 seasons...you start to get a reputation...

You need a superstar to win a title in the NBA. Plain and simple. The Nuggets will not win a title as currently constructed with the current rules.

They are also better suited for this crazy 66 game season. Once there is a normal camp and spaced out games for the normal 82 game seasons, they won't have as much of an advantage.

That's not my point. I agree that the Nuggets are in need of stud player that they can feed the ball to down the stretch of games if they're going to win a title. That's the way the NBA works. My point is that even without a superstar, the Nuggets roster as currently constructed is closer to winning a championship than the Knicks is. Carmelo played on better teams in Denver and never got it done. It's not happening the way that roster looks right now. People also forget that Denver has two very good players still in China right now, even though they only have one in their plans going forward (Wilson Chandler is, JR Smith is not, and I don't even count K-Mart). For Denver, it's going to be tough to get a superstar in this 'new' NBA. For me, as much as I love Carmelo, I'd rather watch the Nuggets right now in terms of the way they play. And to marginalize their success by saying they're successful because it's a shortened season is a little ridiculous, IMO.

As I said before, it's not totally 100% that way, but it is pretty close. (04 pistons are about the only exception. And I'm pretty sure there were a lot of people who didn't think Dirk was a superstar prior to last year, and that he was soft and a choker. It's a lot easier when you can retroactively give the superstar label out. ). But the issue in this case would be if Melo and/or Aamare is that superstar you need to win a title. I'm on record as saying no.

Also, Denver was awesome after the trade last year, which wasn't in a compressed season. They're 28-12 since the trade
