CFB Playoff Rankings for Nov 5

2 and 4 lose this weekend
Exactly. Clemson wins out, they’re in. That’s always been the story w/ such a weak ACC. They can now blitz teams and wait for the top 4 to cannibalize each other.

Does anybody else reflexively reach for the remote when Jesse Palmer is talking? That guy rarely comes up for air.

So the playoff pecking order is
1. Big Ten champion
2. SEC champion
3. Clemson at 13-0
4. Oregon/Utah at 12–1

Then 5. LSU/Alabama loser at 11-1
6. Oklahoma at 12-1

If Baylor goes 13-0 I think they would sneak in over the PAC-12 1 loss team.

why would anyone have the pac 12 12-1 over the lsu/ala loser unless its a blow out game.

Who has Alabama beaten if they lose that game?
LSU atleast beat Florida and Texas.
Alabama has no argument at 11-1.
Plus conference titles gotta mean something.
Utah and Oregon at 7-8 means the PAC-12 is respected they will get in at 12-1.

They will have beaten Auburn which Oregon failed to do. Checkmate.

123 are right - I'd have Clemson over Penn St

Clemson is fortunate that Oklahoma lost. CU's schedule is so soft that it might have been hard to argue they belong over an undefeated Bama, OSU and OU plus LSU if they were a narrow loser at Bama. LSU's resume would have been far more impressive. Not CU's fault but their schedule is terrible and the narrow win over UNC would be a major negative. Now with OU out of the picture I think CU is a lock.

Agreed. I think they are above Minnesota, Baylor, and Penn State - but behind LSU, Bama, and the Ohio State University. I'd have had OU ahead of them if they hadn't lost.

If I am Dabo Swinney, I'm happy as a clam regarding my current CFP ranking. I am now able to motivate my team by simply pointing out to them how according to the ones that matter, their (Clemson's) body of work is not good enough. Swinney is currently thanking the CFP committee for providing him with motivation for his team.

Clemson since the UNC game has been Clemson again.
They weren’t dominant early but they are fine if they win out.
Pennsylvania State will fall out of the top 4 this weekend.
Ohio State deserves the number 1 slot.
LSU should have been 2.
Alabama/Penn State/Clemson all in the same group.
Bama needs to beat LSU. If not if they don’t they belong in the playoff.

Think Minnesota beats Penn State? I wouldn't mind it

Clemson isn't going to lose out to two one-loss teams and there are only two other potential undefeated teams: the Big Ten and SEC champions. They will be fine as long as they take care of business.

The committee basically said as much.
They didn’t rank Clemson low.
They put undefeated Baylor 12th and Minnesota 17th.

So if the committee wasn’t impressed by Clemson they would have been lower.
I think they just ranked the top 5 undefeated teams and out Clemson 5th because the other 4 don’t have the potential loss Clemson had to UNC.

Clemson if they are 13-0 will likely be 3rd in the final ranking.

I do. The Iowa-Penn State game was tight and I think Minnesota is slightly better than Iowa.
So I got the Gophers over the Lions.

I hope you're right.

I'm going with Penn State by 2 TDs. The atmosphere won't phase them and I just think they're better. But again, this is the season I've been wrong about everything college football related.

Sorta unrelated, I hope Oregon and Utah win out. Which I think they both will easily, looking at remaining schedules. For once (it seems) that would be a really good Pac-12 conference championship game. If Oregon wins that game impressively, it will be really hard to keep them out.

Almost all roads of CFB playoff scenarios go through Jordan Hare.

FWIW hypothetical lines for Clemson per Matt Lindeman

+3 Ohio St
+1.5 Bama
-3 LSU
-7 UGA
-8 Penn St, Oklahoma, Utah

That's why OU losing was a big deal for Clemson.
