Definitely plan on watching this live. I really hope the committee takes into account we had an injured QB1 in the first half against ND and played Clemson close. A solid ranking and a win at Pitt will add much needed momentum.

Does this thing play a major role in anything except for the top 6 teams or so fighting for the CFP?

It's just important for the playoff teams.

#1-4 are in, #5-6 are on the bubble, and #7 on down doesn't matter except for school pride.

My guess is that this is the rankings the bowls use rather than the AP going forward. Not sure how much it impacts the bowls though beyond the NY6 ones though.

If I remember correctly ESPN will go by these rankings on their scorebugs and in their website.

This essentially replaces the AP top 25 for the rest of the season.

IMO it is too early for these. We should wait until everyone has played 9 games (after week 10). Also do we really need a Top 25? Just make it a Top 10. The last 5 years (not including 2020) the lowest ranked team to make a playoff was #9. The 1st two years #16 moved up to #4 and #15 also moved up to #4. Those 3x are the only times someone outside of the Top 7 made the playoffs.

In the playoff era the 1st poll has resulted in (not going to count 2020)...

#1 missed out the 1st year (7th) but since then has ended no worse than #3. High #1, Low #7, Median #2. Playoffs 85.7%

#2 in the 2nd year fell hard (20th). The other 6 years the #2 team has made the playoffs. High #1, Low #20, Median #2. Playoffs 85.7%

#3 you do NOT want to be. Only 3 out of 7 seasons has the #3 team ended up in the Top 10, with a high of 6th. They have yet to make the playoffs. High #6, Low #19, Median #11. Playoffs 0.0%

#4 has been a mixed bag. They have 3 playoffs, 5 Top 10s, but once didn't even finished ranked. High #1, Low NR, Median #9. Playoffs 42.9%

#5 has been pretty stable making 4 of 7 playoffs and being no lower than 8th. High #2, Low #8, Median #4. Playoffs 57.1%

#6 had one bad finish (17th) but the other six times have been Top 5, making 3 playoffs. High #1, Low #17, Median #5. Playoffs 42.9%

#7 surprisingly good results here. 3x to the playoffs, 6x times Top 10, no worse than 13th. High #2, Low #13, Median #6. Playoffs 42.9%

#8 has yet to finish any higher than 8th. High #8, Low #16, Median #11. Playoffs 0.0%

#9 has been a mixed bag. 3x they improved, 4x they ended up lower. They have made a playoff though. High #4, Low #17, Median #11. Playoffs 14.3%

#10 the last 4 years have been good with four Top 10s and a high of 5th. The 1st three years they weren't ranked 2x and ended up 19th the other. High #5, Low NR, Median #10. Playoffs 0.0%

Not going to take into account anything with the QB. It’s based on what you are right now and now what you hoped you would be during the game. In that sense it’s a more fair ranking than the AP or coaches poll that’s based on what they think a team should be doing and not what they’ve actually done. But we should be in the top 25

Perhaps, I watched ACC PM yesterday and Packer said the committee would very much take it into account, he even guaranteed they would. Packer being so adamant about it is what put it into my mind.

I hate this whole concept.

The "if the season ended today" thing.

Because the season never ends today. It ends when it ends.

I don't care about the unbalanced schedule argument.

Send the winners of conference championship games to the playoffs. That's it.

The SEC can CFP rank my balls if they don't like it.

I look forward to hearing Herbie's take on where your balls end up ranked tonight

If a team plays with an injured QB and then plays the backup for half the game, isn’t that the team that played the game? That’s what the committee looks at. Absolutely they’ll take into account we played Clemson tough, that will make a difference. But the what if of, this guy was injured and this guy, etc. That’s not a factor. Your team is who lined up to play, hurt or not. If Packer said they’ll factor into their thinking players who should have played but didn’t and players injured, he’s absolutely wrong.

Then they will need to give us less credit for the NC State win too. These things cut both ways. Not just the way we want it to.

This goes without saying, as virtually every single person in the world says the name Leary as soon as we bring up our wins.
