Class of 2026 CG Ryan Moesch (NY) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (4/14/26)

Please nobody get flustered by this question.

I’ve never seen Moesch play before. His other offers were Providence, Siena, Akron and Bowling Green. I saw him described as “not a dynamic athlete.” Will he be able to dribble drive and break down a defense? A skill that other than Judah we really haven’t had at point guard much of the past decade.

Uh oh. A legit question. You’re going to anger some folks.

What's unbelievable is people coming on this board every year and claiming the transfer commits are ACES and exactly what we need... then the team plays the season, flames out, and isn't good enough.

Here's hoping that changes under GMAC, but not buying into any of the transfer hype anymore until this team takes the court and and we see the product.
I can accept this take all day. You just don’t know yet so you aren’t soaring to the moon or jumping off the cliff. None of us know.

I’m just going off of GMac’s tenure at Siena. He had guys playing hard. A 180 from how things were being ran the last few years. That excites me. The guys he has signed so far all look like hard working lunch pail guys. Guys that love to play defense and get after it.

I’m here for the under the radar guys that will play hard for Mac. I’d much rather that then have the top names who are playing for a draft position and doesn’t care about wins and losses.

Thanks Karen! A post about negative threads before there is or possibly even would be, negative threads.
Yeah, that stuff is sad, in and of itself.
"In before the close."
"First!"
"Cue the grumbling..."

That all just seems so... 9th grade.

I hear you.

My only point is, let's see it first.

E.g. We were told on this board (after he signed) that Carlos was the real deal at PG, the staff was absolutely thrilled with him and that he was going to kill it in the ACC... The ACC season started and he was a deer in the headlights, terrified, and a liability bringing the ball up court without getting it stripped...

Turns out he was what you'd expect when making the jump from Hofstra to the ACC... Not good enough.
Consider the source - the prior staff. (nothing personal against them)

My son played against him in high school. Kid can flat out shoot the rock. Logo range. Great court vision. Shifty. Not an elite athlete. He’s really good…just not sure if he is ACC good
That's kinda what i see. He knows how to play. That's important. When i first saw clips, i thought he was 6'5" because he was dunking with ease and he's lean. Surprised to see he's closer to 6'.

But, whatever qualities we ascribe to him now, it will be interesting to see actual production, because we put a lot on Fennell last year. Hoping for better this time.

I don’t know what to think of this kid but man does he showcase clear confidence in every clip no matter the competition. Also he’s more than comfortable pushing the ball up the court even within traffic and switching pace while doing so. That is a problem for a lot of PGs even at this level where they truly are uncomfortable navigating in those situations and thus they slow down or panic and lose the advantage they were trying to create before the defense gets set. This latter skill was a very underrated part of Gerry’s game in that he got into the teeth and made a play often and he didn’t need open court to do so. Gillon had a bit of that skill as well.

It hasn't been easy being a SU basketball fan for quite sometime. I get the skepticism because of recent years. One thing to keep in mind. With all of our supposed talent last year, Duke ran us off the court like a grammar school team. Didn't we lose by 37 points I think?!? Sienna gave Duke all it could handle in the NCAA tournament with only 5 players who played like their lives depended on it. I am cautiously optimistic and hear we're not done yet by a long shot.

Well, most of that would also describe GMac.

Except - Ryan can dunk.
With ease.

Not sure Gerry could even grab the rim.

So - I’d rate him as “more athletic” than GMac.

How much so?
We shall see.

He’s pretty athletic. He can dunk. He’s way more athletic than Joe Girard or Gmac.

Gerry could absolutely grab the rim. He did it in practice all the time, during layup drills (when he was the rebounder). Could he dunk it? No. Not in his wildest dreams, though he says he could at one point.

Tobiason mentioned that he might see time at the 1, 2, and 3.
Hopefully we have a lot of games where we are up 20 and everybody gets to play point guard in garbage time.

I the meantime, I hope we have an actual point guard and backup. :p

I am cautiously optimistic as well... but also concerned. The fact that Siena played Dook way harder than we did is both encouraging and sad.

And can be a good indicator of how hard you play, or don't play, for your coach! That's what I'm also cautiously optimistic about.

This sure looks like a program guy to me - he does not look ready to play in the ACC right now. But he will probably practice hard and hopefully earn some playing time in future years. Nothing wrong with that at all.
I totally get that I'm being the cynical one in the thread. But the words "hopefully earn some playing time in future years" strikes me as a Symir Torrence/Howard Washington-level talent, which we need better then if we want to reverse this 12-year descent.

I'll be rooting for this kid big-time from Day 1. But it seems like a gamble to me.
