Class of 2026 CG Ryan Moesch (NY) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (4/14/26)

It's a common thing to use the exception to the rule as a way of defining the rule.

Any of us could name two dozen forgettable freshman that went on to have good careers. Point guards included.

Ennis was our last freshman to run point well for us.

So... 3 examples of good freshman point guard play since the national championship?

In something of a tangent; One thing we haven't done well the last 15 years is recruit PG, from any source. Even going back to Gbinije playing out of position in 14-15, when we just decided to play without a point guard, we have been a desert of good point guard play.

We had some very good rosters that were submarined by average at best point guards. For instance, Gillon had his moments, but led a team with 8 top100 RSCI rated recruits (including two guys who played in the NBA) to a 19-15 record.

Girard, who got more ink here than virtually any player ever, played for us 4 years. He was notable for his shooting, point guard size and no point guard skills.

I thought George would be an oasis, but who knows exactly what went wrong with that situation.

I seriously doubt Moesch is the solution to the point guard problem, especially after watching much higher rated PG come out of high school and bomb or underperform just last season.

I will be very happy if he can give us ten minutes a game and not hurt us. If he is better than that, and actually makes a starting role, that would be shocking, and hopefully in a good way.
I don’t think he is going for the exception defines the rule, but rather exceptions disprove the absolute.

Is this look from a blow-dryer? What am I looking at here.
As someone who had the literally exact same hairstyle growing up and could now I I wanted too still even at 28, it most likely isn’t a blow dryer lol. My hair is really thick and my moms is curly and wavy so I Carry some of those traits over and it’s exactly like his when grown out that way. Its poofy basically lol

i know many have seen this highlight tape, but unless i missed it i didn't see it here in Ryans thread. it's in the needs thread so maybe a few missed it. I've watched it twice and I'm kind of mesmerized by what this kid can do. putting aside his size, he's what everyone wants in a pure pg. he may only get a handful of minutes this year as he gets stronger but down the road i think he becomes a big contributor. i can see how he played with, or outplayed, other more highly touted pgs. plays fearless, has great vision and for a smaller guy can really handle contact inside when driving. i think in the long run we are going to be very pleasantly surprised. the last play in this video is fun. a pass off the backboard.

His head is always up great vision and a solid left hand., not sure about the right which he will need at this level. His issue is size. Not sure how he defends.
There were a few finishes with his right hand at the end of the reel.

Enjoyable read and further incentive that he’ll be well prepared to fulfill his role this year. I’m of the opinion that he’s the natural backup to Dual at the point, but that his minutes will be determined by whether he’s a net positive over what we get with Doty or Tobiason picking up some of those minutes.

And he doesn’t fall down after every layup attempt.

I'm higher on Moesch than most here having seen him play a bunch. His ranking is a direct reflection on his size and not his basketball acumen. Coming in I believe he has higher upside than Joe Girard. I don't believe he will be as good of a shooter, but does everything else better. The size will impact his defense, but I don't think he will have issues getting into the lane. He's quick, not fast. He can jump.
Well that would be a tremendous pick up if that is the case as it relates to the comparison. Just imagine if we ran a 3 guard lineup and refused to leave it with Kadary, Joe, and Buddy. In any event that is history. Once Joe moved off the ball he thrived It is where he belonged all the time. Super killer kid

Billy led Oak Hill to a consensus National Championship in high school. The competition he played against was a lot better then this kid has seen.
Cushing is a great school, they play nationally. Different then versus now including AAU. He holds his own seemingly for sure and has thrived. Their last point guard was tremendous at Stanford right?

I love your positive post about one of our new players.

It is very refreshing vice the disparaging comments others make about a player’s size or perception of skills, etc.

Thank you for your unbiased post.

There’s a lot to like w this kid.

And the comp isn’t “Little Sisters of the Poor”,
so he’s doing this mostly against other college-bound players.

I counted 2 R hand finishes.

Which is better than 0 (o hai CJ Fair!!),
but he’d be well served to work on his R more, and use it more when it’s needed.
Quite a few of the shots he took w the L, instead of the R,
would likely get swatted into the cheap seats in the ACC.

But two more than left hand finishes by JJ in his whole time here.
