Chandler Jones Traded to Arizona

I'm just fascinated by seemingly every Patriot fanboy's inherent need to boast about every little move the Patriots make. It's strange. The arrogance is nauseating. Did anyone in this thread claim the Patriots are going to fall off after trading their defensive end? Is Brady still playing? Check. Ok...then no. "Methinks the Brady lady doth protest too much."
Pats make plenty of bad moves and I criticize them when they do. They let Welker go it was wrong, they haven't done a good job drafting a WR.

This arrogance narrative is nauseating. The team has managed its salary cap brilliantly and that is why they have been competitive all these year along with Brady.

Chandler Jones is a good player but his salary cap hit was going from 1.5 million to 7.5 million next year and the team couldn't resign him.

Sheard was a really good DE last year and he was a rotation player with Nikovich and Jones. He missed 5 games with injury. Sheard can give them close to Jones production and give them an asset in the 2nd round and player on the OL with talent at a position they need help.

This move gave the team more salary cap and gives Chandler to get paid with another team. Patriots make plenty of bad moves this was not one of them.

I'm still p!ssed at my Bears for passing on Jones in the draft and instead drafting Shea McClellin who's about to be even more irrelevant than he already has been.

Alsacs' post was literally all facts, not boasting at all, stating why it made sense for the Patriots to trade him. I hope he becomes a perennial pro bowler, like Richard Seymour did when he left the team.

With seemingly the entire Pats D in a contract year, and with the prices DEs are getting paid now, it made more sense to pick up a guy like Chris Long.

Not to mention, with the first round draft pick selection unfairly taken from the Pats, it's good to replace it with another 2nd rounder, and an OG they highly, highly coveted out of college.

I wouldn't say it's a bad move for New England, but I wouldn't say it's a good move either. They were going to a get a 3rd round pick when Chandler walked anyways, so they basically get one less year out of one of their best players to move up a round.

They also got Chris Long for 3 million dollars a year as part of the rotation to replace Chandler and have 4.5 million dollars in cap space. Chandler was no longer on his rookie contract making nothing he was on his 5th year option year making 7.5 million

They can use that money to get another decent player and have the ammo to move up in the draft now that they have 2 2nd round and 2 3rd round picks.

Both teams win IMO. Arizona gets a year of Chandler Jones and New England gets an asset now and cap space.

What is Arizona's financial picture - will they sign Chandler long term?
If they don't its the worst trade ever. Can't give up a 2nd round pick and a starting guard (even if he stinks) for a 1 year rental. Not in the NFL

Yep.

That's why I told alsacs that he won't be traded for a 1, which he kept pontificating. Think I said 3 at best, maybe a 4...and then just to piss him off I said a 5.

Dumb trade, but if they win it all...worth it.

I never said first round pick. I said a 2nd round pick. I asked about the Giants 2nd round pick. I told you the Cardinals deal was on the table.

The Pats weren't trading him for worse than a 2nd round pick when if he leaves after the year the compensatory pick would have been a 3rd round pick.

If Arizona doesn't resign Chandler they will get a 3rd round pick in 2o17.

Arizona traded a 2016 2nd round pick for a 2017 3rd round pick if Chandler leaves after 1 year.

The Pats got cap relief, an extra 2nd round pick and got Chandler's replacement in Chris Long.

As a diehard Cardinal fan, I'll offer up my opinion. The Cardinals sorely lacked a pass rush last year. Even without one, they reached the NFC Championship game. Picking 29th, they weren't getting an elite pass rusher in the draft. There really wasn't anything in the FA market that fit their D. This is a great trade for the Cardinals. We traded a bust G (Cooper) that we drafted a few years earlier out of UNC. The kid appeared to have great upside out of college, but was injured his rookie season & never seemed to bounce back. The Cardinals feel they are a legit SB contender THIS year, so they were willing to take the risk with Jones. They will franchise him next year, so they'll get at least 2 years out of him. The Cardinals are no longer a doormat in the NFL. They have a great, young GM (Steve Keim) who's made some great deals already. The Pats are DESPERATE at the O-line position & they don't have a 1st round pick this year. With two 2nd round choices now, they can trade into the 1st round pot snag another O-lineman if they'd like. I think this is a good trade for both sides.

I agree with this. It was a win/win trade. Jones is a good player in a contract year. He is going to help the pass rush. Pats had depth on the DL and needed picks. Cooper is a project on a one year deal. Has talent and a change of scenery could help him.

You hit the nail on the Pats weakness. They will drafting OL interior OL to be specific. They have 2 good tackles and a center.
They need guards and it will be interesting if Cooper can play in NE.

If its a one year deal the Cardinals will get a 3rd round pick as a compensatory pick.

The Pats just signed McClellin to be part of the rotation to replace Chander Jones along with Chris Long.

You don't know that. That isn't a given. It depends who else Arizona signs in that offseason if they even get a comp pick and if the comp pick is awarded you can't say for certain what round it will be without knowing who else Arizona signs in that offseason.

The amount of money Chandler signs for will basically ensure it will be a 3rd round pick.

If he gets 25-30 million guaranteed in a huge deal it will be a 3rd round pick.

The Cardinals won't have the cap space to spend all this money in FA. They will get a 3rd round pick for Chandler if he leaves without a franchise tag and has a good year.

I wonder what this does for Dwight Freeney. Not sure if the Cardinals would look to resign him after picking up Chandler.

Was thinking the same thing or both guys on the same team comon AZ you want a CNY fanbase right???

So if anyone knows Chandler personally, I would like to represent him as his real estate agent here. If he buys a home, I donate 10% of my commission back to SU athletics. I am very good at what I do. My customer always comes first. I am extremely professional, ethical, and I make sure my deals close with virtually no drama. I follow every aspect of the transaction through and past closing. I work a lot of areas of the metro Phoenix area, and have 2 agents that I also work with as part of a semi team. I can guarantee he will not find a better person to represent him.

Ok, that is my sales pitch of the day. Oh and I recently bought football season tickets to support the program even though I will not get to any games from AZ!!!!

Thank you.

Not at all. Comp picks are based off 3 factors. 1) Who you let go/who you sign. 2) Playing time in the year after you leave the team. 3) Postseason honors.

So, it's impossible to predict what round the pick will come in. If Chandler Jones blows out his knee in the preseason after he leaves Arizona they ain't getting a 3rd round pick.

Postseason honors mean nothing.

It is how much money that FA signs for and how much your team spends in that free agent period.

I have to assume you are speaking in hyperbole. The Vikings trade for Herschel Walker and the Saints trade for Ricky Williams quickly come to mind as being monumentally bad.

Btw, Cooper didn't start the last 9 games of the year. Even after he recovered from injury Arians thought his replacement was better and moved Cooper to 2nd string.

It's one of the 3 factors that play into how comp picks are decided. It's 1/3 of the mathematical equation the NFL uses!

Julius Thomas left Denver for Jacksonville and the Broncos are getting a 3rd round pick for him.

It is all about the money Jacksonville gave him.

Arizona is likely going to get a 3rd round pick if Jones left I don't get why you fighting this hard. It is very likely as Jones will have a good year in a contract or won't command a high salary and would be easy for Arizona to resign.

Chandler has similar numbers to Oliver Vernon and he got paid.
