Class of 2018 Chase Scanlan (NY: Silver Creek / IMG) Mid Transfer from Loyola to Syracuse

Chase is on Six Nations Arrows roster, a Ontario Jr A summer team with couple of present Cuse players, Clay Scanlan and Tehoka as well as several members of the Bomberry and Staats families including Jerry.

Recent game shows Cuse's Kevin Owen Hill scoring two goals as did Jeremy Bomberry. Hill is #24 and his scores are toward the beginning of posted video. Chase did not play in this contest.

Hill is lefty with skills, on smaller side but has Voigt like hands and good mobility. Possible sleeper
#24 is the Akron/OCC/Albany Hill. He's heavier (210) and has a pony tail.
#14 is the Hill/Cuse Hill he's skinnier (156) without a pony tail.

Excellent job. Syracuse.com could learn a thing or two.
Not only excellent job by the DO, also by Desko. I've questioned his recruiting effort at times (including with other NA prospects). But this is impressive:

“For Desko to drive five hours to Ontario to show that he’s interested in me means a lot,” Scanlan said. “Because I know Desko doesn’t always do that.”

Foy and Quint spend some time in the middle of this podcast talking about Scanlan moving to SU. It's a good discussion, Foy thinks Scanlan was playing hurt at the end of the season and Quint says that Scanlan/Dordevic/Curry could be the best midfield in the county (don't know if he had seen the report that Scanlan will play attack, and he seems to forget about Trimboli).

For what it's worth, Quint says that both Hopkins and SU need to make progress this year or changes will be coming (did not get the sense that he had inside knowledge, it was just his opinion). Anyway, it's worth a listen.

Pet peeve is how Trimboli is overlooked at times and under appreciated by some. Likable kid will be one of the few f4 year starters on first line and has been productive each and very year . Capable of playing two ways and hustles his sss off . Has hit several game winners HM AA, All ACC. .One of the finest to come out of Victor , a local who came here and worked his tail off and actually lived up to ranking Good player, bright student, a biology major who was a AA Academic for years and could have transferred to a Cornell. He'd stayed through thick and thin . A senior who could have worn #22. Grass is always greener , its his final season, hopefully be fuller appreciation.

Scanlan has more of less said he will play attack and his game suits us there in our offense. I like how he plays and fits, he will not distract from mids but rather his threat should be mutually beneficial .

Not sure improvement will be reflected by season record given schedule and dislocation. There will be pressure to make playoffs and advance beyond first round. This team should be capable of making some noise over next two years

Listened to this as well. My take away on Quint's comment about the "changes" at Hopkins and SU was less about any literal/specific programmatic change, and that he was speaking more to those two programs losing ground to "upstart" programs like PSU, OSU, the Ivies (what if Harvard invests like Yale?), and peers like UVA, Duke, Notre Dame, etc. Falling back, perhaps in a way that is insurmountable (to achieve the programs' lofty standards).

Also, in addition to what you noted about the midfield, both said they'd like to see Curry play "X", which is something that i do not believe has been discussed in the third attackman thread.

Curry didn't gather votes in Powell's 3rd att poll which surprised since he played attack in hs and shows ability to pass off dodges. As far as X ,recall him dodging from behind cage n passing to a cutting Bomberry for game winner in UNC game in 18" . He's a weapon wherever. Guess thought is that his speed plays best in wide open field but speed works anywhere and his shooting percentages would increase as Jeremy previously said. Other reason is Refhuss is capable at x ( expecting him to shine) so if there is any consideration of Curry to attack than it likely be to wing or X next year if either need surface. Quint seemed positive on Cook and on Cuse O however arranged

I didn't vote for him, but I was suprised that Curry got no votes in the poll. After all he did play some attack as a freshman two years ago. If Desko wants to play a "best six" in crunch time, its certainly reasonable to see Curry move down to attack. I think he has more experience there than Dordevic. One thing I keep thinking about is the attack not next year, but the year after - the Orange are losing their QB in Rhefuss and as of now it doesn't really look like they have a replacement in the wings. I could see Desko being tempted to move Curry down there as a senior, and giving him some runs there this year (or all the runs there) is certainly possible.

Wood and Berkman are both QB Type attackmen who I think could fill that role, I also wouldn't be surprised if SU hit the transfer market for another attackmen if needed. Curry moving to attack is interesting as with his accuracy issues getting him closer to the cage would be a positive I think. That said I think he's better off staying at attack and trying to be more consistent. When he's on his game he is an AA player. That said there were to many games last year where he was just a non factor for how good a player he is. We need him to take that next step this season.

Out of curiosity, what's the word on Berkman? He pretty much owns every offensive record in Florida; however, I don't recall hearing much about him last year.

Didn't play last year. I thought I saw him play against Navy, but he's not in the box score.

I saw him play a decent amount in the team v team scrimmage last fall. He seemed fairly undersized which surprised me. Both very skinny and fairly short. Didn't have much of an impact dodging againt our guys. My guess is he would only see the field next year if he is able to be an offball wizard for us. He won't crack into the middie lines and he probably isn't capable of being a better qb than cook rehfuss or scanlan. For him the offball Voigt type role is wide open for the taking unless Desko views Scanlan as that type of player. Seebold Nelson and our other potential options all don't strike me as potential offball specialists.

Berkman RS last year, a big jump form Florida Lax to the very top of D1. Think he needed the year to adjust to the speed and skill of the players at this level. Think he can definitely make an impact here as his HS stats were nothing short of outstanding but again he has to make that adjustment to the D1 level. Some can ie Solomon, others can't ie Romano. He is in the mold of a QB attackmen who I think could benefit from another year learning under Rehfuss and then maybe compete for his spot in 2021.

Think he needs a few years in the weight room to try and get physically ready to play against D1 guys. Surprised to hear about his height though as he is listed at 6'0 per the roster. I don't see him being an off ball guy for SU next year, to many other potential attack players who fit that mold much better. Aburn and Hill being the two most obvious options plus the true frosh Donnelly who seems to be in the mold of a crease guy as well.

Hmm he is taller than what I remember, but when you are really skinny maybe it just makes you seem smaller in general. I have a good feeling about Owen Hill given his box lacrosse background. Voigt really proved that you can be effective even while being really slow and not dodging at all as long as you can finish in tight spaces at a high percentage . There is a good chance we just go with Scanlan as a guy who can both play well offball and dodge when the time comes, which is basically the role the Solomon played. After that we could be fine with Rehfuss and using one of the 2 million other options (Cook, Curry, Dordevic, Seebold, etc.) as another playmaking, dodging attack.

Aburn might be to attack group what Buttermore was to mid group. Player who gets overlooked for awhile until you have to take notice because they keep producing whenever given a chance . Aburn played at Boys Latin with the Brandaus and his club was Maryland Crabs and faced tough competition.

Solid body that he uses, very good off ball finisher and can dodge with deceptive mobility, quick hands and decisions. Kid just makes plays , hope he gets a long look

Very trivial, but It's been nice seeing Scanlan interacting with his teammates over social media this past week.

No family atmosphere though

I think he was saying that just to say it. Because how can you watch that press conference after that Loyola loss and not get choked up? Clearly they all loved each other which shows, because only two people have transferred out for playing time.

Scanlan originally committed to SU out of IMG Academy in Florida but then switched to Loyola when the Orange came up a little short on a financial aid package.

This confused me. The promise scholarship he is getting now is the same as he was getting then, right? Maybe Desko was able to free up some more scholarship money for expenses?
