Chet Holmgren to Gonzaga

7-0 185 pounds.

Were we asleep at the wheel? ; )

Edit -- he's a local to Minneapolis kid. Sounds a lot like Anthony Davis in the sense that he had a 9 inch growth spurt a year or two ago. Prior to that, he was a guard, and has tons of face the basket skills.

He played at the same prep HS as Jaylen Suggs, who just starred for Gonzaga this year, so him committing there makes sense.

Best player in this years class. Amazing what Few has done to turn that place into a destination. They will be a one seed again next year.

is he definitely making it campus?

Meaning, will G-League Ignite or someone try to pick him off?

Pretty sure he will make it to campus. The ignite were one of his choices the way it sounded.

Makes no sense to commit this late in the cycle and then go to g league he should be arriving at Gonzaga in the fall

Thanks. And now I feel obese.

Very skilled but wow insanely slim. Like alarming. Eat eat eat.

Yeah, he was great in his game against Emoni Bates (pretty sure Chet's team was more stacked), but when you see him play, he's SO skinny.

I'm sure it's fine for college, but that kid needs to start putting on good weight, asap.

"It was [Gonzaga's] consistent approach, how versatile they are on the court and their offensive style," Holmgren added. "They take their talent and tweak their system based on their personnel. They know how to put it all together."

This is a key. I feel like it needs to happen regardless...but a lot of schools are just set in their ways and try to force players into their system. One of the things I wish JB would do a bit more of, especially lately. Aside from increasing winning, it will def appeal to recruits to know they can play their game.

Being here in MN like you RF2044 I'm sure you have seen many highlights and maybe even seen Holmgren play in person. I would have loved to see what Chet could have done in the middle of the Syracuse 2-3 zone. I think he would have been perfect with his incredible shot blocking ability and I think he has the ability to defend the corners as well.

Holmgren is 7' but offensively he is a stretch 4 as he can shoot 3's with ease. It will be interesting to see how his game translates at Gonzaga.

lol, plenty of Gophers fans thought the new coach (he has pretty extensive ties to the MN aau scene and local high schools) meant Holmgren to Minnesota
Never a chance to MN from what I've heard. Chet was just keeping MN on his list to be nice to them and keep the locals from getting on him too much. Gonzaga has been the easy front runner for a long time.

It would be nice locally here in MN to see some of the great MN players play for the Gophers but I can't blame them a bit when they have ended up at Duke or Gonzaga.

Yep, had heard the same. But it didn't stop the delusional segment of the fan base (see! every school has one of those!) from convincing themselves he was staying home due to the arrival of Johnson. It will be interesting to see how many of these blue-chippers Johnson is able to keep home - have to think he'll fare better than Pitino did in that regard

Yeah, he's a 4 for sure. He'd make a great tandem with Timme, if he returns.

Guess I'll just bet Zags +1000 now why bother waiting

The Twin Cities have excellent high school basketball talent but just can’t keep elite players at home at UofM.

and is why Coyle is rolling the dice w Johnson - sacrificing no HC experience and learning-on-the-job in game X-Os for (hopeful) in-state recruiting pay off - we shall see - alums/boosters/plugged-in fans 'round here are skeptical

JB tweaks his offensive system based upon the players. He has for a long time. It’s why some years we have a more fast paced offense and others we have a slower “rock fight” pace. Some years it’s more a guard ISO offense while others its forward centric. As we’ve gotten more shooters, we’ve become a team that takes more 3’s. Etc.

I think he is/can/will be a solid coach but I'm not sure the situation will allow enough of a runway to get the program where it needs to be to match ability with results.

Watched some videos of him, moves very well with the ball but doesn’t seem very quick. He’s going to have a lot of trouble doing that at the next level and a lot of the plus things I see him do I’m not sure he can do against bigger and stronger players.

Id take Benny over him in a heartbeat.

Yeah, JB has always had a reputation as a coach that adjusts to his personnel and their styles.
