Chris Bell transferring to Cal

Chris is getting destroyed by the Ville. Consistently getting blown by his man.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

But, at some point, shouldn’t he be focused on the game?

Congrats to Bell pulling down his first rebound in his 29th minute.

We should know. He excels at scoring 20 points in Garbage time. Props to Cal for going on a 15 point run late in the 2nd to close the game to 10 points, Bell was shooting hot! Then Louisville started rebounding and playing D again and won by 20.

He can shoot but I can't believe how difficult it is for him on the defensive side.

Totally agree on character judgements, but the dude sucks at basketball outside of one area where he is streaky. Can't isolate his occasionally good three point shooting from how disgustingly bad he is at everything else. No bag, no defense, no rebounding, no passing or IQ when it comes to spacing, no consistent effort, and everything gets even worse if the shot isn't falling. I was team bell when it was between him Taylor and Q in his first couple years, since those guys sucked even worse. He completely lost me with his regression last year, which was CLEARY accompanied by less effort on the court. Year 3 and he looked worse than he was as a freshman. We have upgraded from that dude in every way.

A total blessing that he is no longer on this team. Do not care about anything off the court. Do not care that he had one of his good shooting days last game.

I expected him to not hustle back down court after a missed shot and he proved me right…..everytime.

He's the type of player that I watch and say that I wish I had his size, his athleticism, and wish I could shoot like him. I'm sure Chris Bell is a nice kid, and I met his uncle and dad early on, and they were nice guys, but he hasn't improved much at all in his four years. And he's a real tough kid to coach, because he doesn't seem to accept criticism at all. And that's why his game is very one dimensional.

But, not our problem.

We just had a lot of guys with obvious limitations, and it will be Red's downfall. Too many weaknesses on the floor to play winning basketball.

On Monday's weekly ACC coaches call, ironically, but conveniently, Cal's Mark Madsen and the Cuse's Adrian Autry were scheduled back-to-back on the agenda, and it was obvious in the tone of voices from each head coach, Madsen and his program have welcomed Bell with wide open arms, while Autry could only shrug at the plus/minus nature of the transfer portal/NIL era.

Madsen says Bell's impact has been 'huge' on the Cal program​

Coming off a rough home loss last Saturday night to Clemson, in which they trailed by double digits most of the way, and more of an outlier for the surprising Bears (17-7, 5-6) this season than not, Madsen had nothing but praise about Bell's place, a senior from the nearby East Bay, in the program.


On a team with four double-digit average scorers, Bell is fourth among that group at a respectable 13.0 ppg, hitting 45% from beyond the arc, fitting right in as another scorer and long range threat.

"His work ethic is that of an NBA player," Madsen said Monday. "He is obviously an elite shooter, but he's so much more than that. He's a strong finisher at the rim. He has a really good basketball IQ. Everybody on the team loves him."
