Chris Bell transferring to Cal

Chris needs a fresh start. I dont know of any other player that has been provided with more opportunities to do well. I believe that Red and the staff did everything possible to help Chris overcome his problems.

Chris is a good, not great shooter who is average in other areas. I wish him the best and hope that his focus is on getting himself into a good place and getting his degree. It will be interesting to see how things work out for him on and off the court.
I might be biased, but I definitely don’t think the coaching staff did “everything” to help him. They didn’t run any plays for the guy. He literally sat in the corner most of the time. He shot 40 something percent last year from 3 and then 40 something this year in ACC play.. I think that’s great shooting

A can't imagine any team looks at Bell as anything besides a 3 point shooter on the bench who is only needed in certain game situations like facing a zone defense or desperately needing some 3 point shots.

Perhaps Bell has only received that feedback so far and is looking for a team with more playing opportunities. He can't be shopping around only looking for higher NIL. No team would or should spend much for him.

Updated article with teams he’s spoken to.

You just know that if he ends up on a team we face next year, he's going to go 9-11 from 3 on us.

Perhaps other coaches think they can coach him up better than his coach this year and get him a better pg than he got to play with this year, and maybe they saw some improvement in other areas that most here refuse to see.

Fun factoid of the day - Lucas Taylor also shot a little over 40% from 3 in ACC play. He also had a better percentage in the total season on more attempts. And he actually tried on the defensive end. Can we stop acting like Bells ACC shooting cancels out his complete lack of effort in everything that was not related to shooting?? The dude only brought us down this season.

This is the correct way to look at this. He went a month starting without making a 3 along with no defense. Although we had no good wins around that time is when the bad losses started adding up. Check out his games against GTown and ND we lost around then, those are games he should've been really helping us and he was huge liability.

Miami o Miami

I can't even imagine the mind games that could be played

Sort of stunned he's getting interest from big programs. If ever a kid needed a low stress mid major it was this kid.
I’m not surprised. The kid is talented. He can obviously shoot and he’s athletic. I think his biggest issue is between his ears, but maybe a change of scenery will help with that.

His highlight tape is just as impressive as a lot of other big transfers (and no, I’m not suggesting coaches of schools go by highlights, but it does show his potential when he’s on).

Recency bias says he's cooked. He didn't pour in 30 this year.
We'll see.

Based on some of our many misses over the past few years, I'd say it looks like that's exactly what SU coaches have done. Maybe that's not accurate but the appearance is there.

Chris seems like a good kid who just needs a good coach to push him and unlock his potential. Lucas might be able to get more out of him, but time will tell. I’ve got nothing against him as he gave us 3 years and it just didn’t work out, so at this point a parting of ways was best for both sides. Better coaching and a good system will help Chris on both sides of the ball, but he must make a mental breakthrough to get better.

I think he's getting interest but it's pretty telling that so far none of our out-bound transfers are finding much action. Bell is probably the most attractive of them and he's had some visits, but I don't think many programs are offering the spot on the team he is looking for. We shall see, but most of the major programs have locked up their primary targets already. About 70% of the top 100 transfers are already signed and some of those who haven't committed yet either declared for the NBA draft or entered the portal late.

OH i have nothing against him. But as someone who also has been known to get into my own head, just thought being a big fish in a small pond was his best option.

Because he has NBA potential (my point of view which I know others don’t agree with), I think giving it another shot at a school like Miami is wise. He must do the work on the court, making an effort on defense, moving on offense to get his shot or to make the defense active thus freeing teammates, and off the court - how to improve his mental acuity.
