Chris Bell transferring to Cal

What I learned from reading yesterday's posts is that Chris Bell was a horrible defender in high school who ignored his coach.

Why did we recruit him, exactly?

I barely follow recruiting, but that sure seems like a couple of red flags.

A major piece of the evaluation process has been missing for years. Benny says hi.

JB really valued good shooters his last years after the 2018 & 2019 teams did not even average 70 points per game.

Because: best recruiting class ever.
I'm 68 years old. Been following Syracuse basketball since the Greg Kohls days. When Boeheim said that ( if he really did) that sealed it for me. Was a staunch supporter when a lot of my Phoenix friends had lost confidence in him. To call that class his best ever, I finally realized it was time for the legend to move on.

Yeah, the last time he said that was the 2004 class, which was actually pretty good - Terrence Roberts, Mookie Watkins, Demetris Nichols and Louis McCrosky.

Chris might make a few bucks off shore if he's lucky.

Are you guys saying that Boeheim was blowing smoke? I mean, he had the tendency to do that in pressers but he rarely hyped up teams or recruiting classes (to my recollection). He was often right more times than not. Anyway, just wondering.

He had to be blowing smoke. That class was so far from being his best, it wasn't funny

He was facing real pressure about his job. And that comment was clearly BS designed to buy him time.

Back in the day he would rarely hype up his teams. Quite the opposite. In his final years he did it more and more. Because it was in his self interest to do so.

I really wish JB’s last few years never happened.

Remember, we were on the downward slope, and his kids had just moved on after less than inspiring results and mass transfers. He had to justify that this would be a good team, would get us back on top.

Yeah, that was my point. Up until the last few years, I respected most of what Boeheim said and did. What he said mattered. Then his sons came to play and everything was thrown out the window. Boeheim then started saying things. Most of which were BS.

For those who don't remember, Boeheim said it was his best recruiting class ever before he even got Judah. Judah was committed to Pitt at the time of his comment I believe. Definitely an animal-backed-into-a-corner type of remark.

DC, Stevie, Earl Duncan, Keith Hughes, Matt Roe, and the throw in Eric Rogers at 6-11.
4 of those players started at one time.
Earl and Keith transferred and got Rutgers back in the NCAA Tournament for the 1st time since 1974. Matt transferred to Maryland his senior year.
