Chris McCullough dismissed from Brewster

I am encouraged by his comment here. It seems like when bad things and a high school/college/pro athlete takes to twitter, it rarely helps the situation. So this is at least a good first step that he is taking responsibility.

On a side note, doesn't Chris understand that this kind of news is NOT a good way to rack up the tees on the board here?
He'd still get them somehow. I swear it wasn't me. This guy did it.

Perhaps he was ousted because he and several other ballers on team formed a secret society in which they would leave the dorms at night, go up into the hills..and recite poetry.

in fact im sure of it.

whatever he did, it must have been pretty bad. Tuition and board at Brewster is nearly $50,000, and they have a tradition of paying the tuition of elite basketball talents (Mitch McGary, Thomas Robinson, even our own CJ Fair). Brewster takes its basketball seriously, and I find it hard to believe that they would renounce a $50,000 scholarship because he was smoking pot in the woods (or something similar).

What igor doesn't understand is that we need McCullough to offset the liability that is James Arthur Boeheim.
chris is no Carmelo. his sheet program couldn't win without him

Neither. If both are still here, Grant will play the 3, Roberson the 4, and McCullough the 5. But Grant will likely be gone, so it's moot.

uh. So you're saying if a recruit isn't Carmelo he's worthless to us? Interesting...

what he's saying is perfectly reasonable. In Igor's mind, Boeheim cannot possibly win unless he has a Carmelo-like talent to cover up for his inherent defects. Since CM is no Carmelo, then he is worthless.

if we get everyone back who is supposed to be here, we real don't need him
That's like saying Marsh doesn't "need" to drink PBR...

Actually that's probably more like Marsh saying Love UConn - a preposterous idea!

Please tell me this is tongue in cheek. I know a few people thought Roberson would start once he got here but he's not ready. He's got to get stronger and get used to the difference between high school and college. Give him a few years and he will be really good. Think the same will be with McCullough. Also no way JB will bench Rak and/or DC2 for an unproven freshman in the middle. Just think of the bench we have next year. That's what it takes a lot to make deep runs in the tourney and win it all.

Aren't most HS courses for the entire academic year ... and not for a semester? If that is the case, he will just have to get up the speed at whatever school he attends.
Absolutely. I'm sure by next Monday that McCullough will be enrolled in a new school and getting the academic support needed to graduate. There are probably many others that have been in the same situation and have entered college with no problems.

Interesting point here. He was "dismissed". What exactly is "dismissed". There are various levels of suspension, some which send you home for a period of time, and then there is expulsion. Both could be construed as "dismissed.". If he was expelled, then it is big trouble, as the handbook makes it clear that if you are expelled that you lose all school work up until that point. They will not allow you to take your work elsewhere, and will not help you in any way to do that. In otherwords your work = ZERO for the year. So I am hoping dismissed is some sort of suspension where he had to leave the school for a week or so. This fits with the tweet that says "minor set back" Cause the other could be a major set back.

Reached by text, Brewster coach Jason Smith said, “Yes, Chris was dismissed.”

He added: “I hope Chris will be successful in the future.”

He's out of Brewster.

And under the suspensions, you can apply for readmission. So maybe this can all be worked out.
Having been a preppy it is really hard to be a scholarship athlete. For the most part the other students have serious money compared to these athletes. I also found that a lot of prep students came from homes where their parents were too busy for them, and there is an atmosphere of getting into trouble, probably for attention. This was not my case, but there was a decent contingent that fit into one or the other category. I actually was friends with the bball players. My friend, Ronnie Norwood was one of the biggest players coming out of high school that year. He went to Providence where they won the NC his freshman year, but Dave Gavitt would not let Freshman play even though it was finally allowed. He did not get along with Gavitt at all, and ultimately ended up at DePaul where he was in the re cord book until very recently if not still as the all time assist leader. He was drafted, and blew out his knee in one of the first practices. He never got out of the Newark, NJ/Oranges area, drives an ambulance, and barely makes ends meet. A few years ago I took him to the Syracuse/Seton Hall game. Bottom line is that I really know how hard it was for Ronnie to go from Newark, NJ to Northern New Hampshire, where he was one of the only non white students, and adjust to life and academia. By the way, his brother also went there as a ball player and has a phd in English and is a college prof. So who knows. End of story, lol

Brewster head coach Jason Smith confirmed via email.
“I was notified this morning by our Dean of Students that Chris was dismissed for a violation of school rules,” Smith told The Daily Orange.

He says morning so its probably something that happened over the weekend, and it came from the dean of students?.Do they practice on the weekend? Doesn't sound like its education related and nobody is pressing charges which is good.

Not to add to the fire but alittle worried about the timing of this, loi day is thursday.
He said he is a man. Ill be good. Hope he tweets something about syracuse.

If all three are here, the only one who may not start is Roberson. There is absolutely no way McCullough doesn't start from day one. None.

Kinda like Coleman - who is now finishing the games with the walk ons
Not remotely like Coleman. They are not even close to being the same kind of player. One is insanely athletic and has clear offensive skills. The other one battled weight issues, isn't overly athletic, and has a limited skill set.

Firstly - I hope this is nothing more than a bump in the road for Chris. I hope he sends in his LOI and that he has eligibility for next fall at the Cuse and becomes a star here. I hate to see young men do foolish things that adversely affects their lives when they have so much potential opportunity in front of them.

Secondly - As a fan I refuse to continue to get emotionally involved in the annual crisis of the season. As stated above, I wish the best to Chris in the way it plays out, but regretfully, if it does not play out for the best he will only have himself to blame.

I simply cannot let the goings on in the lives of high school basketball players affect me other than that I am pleased when one of them wants to come to the Cuse and I wish them the best success. I will no longer worry about negative things that should not have occurred in the first place.

In addition, one gets numb to these things after 10 or 20 years.

"The other one battled weight issues, isn't overly athletic, and has a limited skill set." He's one of us.
