Chukwu vs. Melo

I believe his physical problems created his style of play. If he can regain his explosion he won't have to take that dribble and give those pump fakes. I hope we will be replacing a few backboards next year. Injuries create a lot of problems ask Tigger Woods.

He was doing the same thing when he got here, not because of the injury.

I do have to ask, when was DC2 ever considered explosive?

Fab Melo didn't want to put the effort in? He went from a borderline useless freshman to the big east defensive player of the year and probably the most important player on a team that lost only 3 games all year. Say what you will about his academics but he put a lot of work in on the court during his stay here.

He put a lot of work in at Chucks too, with girls and alcohol.

He's been playing through that injury his whole college career. I think he was pretty explosive when he was rated number one post player in the country.

Good call. Even though he seems like a guy Boeheim would like to Boeheim, as a 5th year senior who has battled back from injury and paid his dues in the system, I'd expect JB to reward him. I hope to heck that he continues to improve so that next year this board won't be filled with angry posts when JB does. I have an idea it could be like that, with the specter of a 7'2 center on the bench.

I do like using the term "Boeheim" in it's verb form. I suppose I can sacrifice my desire to use it next season in exchange for quality play from all of the starters, but I will miss the word.

I'd like to add an urbandictionary.com entry for Boeheim (verb), like I did for ***t**** (noun). Again it would only be a small audience that understands it, but that isnt completely uncommon on there.
What? JB rewards his seniors and program players. That is why I think DC2 is a lock to start. Scoop started over MCW, Brandon started over Dion.

It seems like there will be a variety of options for JB next year. The defensive presence of 7'2" vs the more offensively minded DC2. Game situations and matchups will probably dictate PT. But I would be shocked if DC2 isn't the starter.

Unless Chukwu can functionally do something as a dive man on PnR, I really think he'll just clog the offense.
I think, for absolutely no reason than because I want to believe, that he will be serviceable there.

I'm less confident that we'll use him that way by design, though.

Most players put work in with woman and alcohol too.

Most players, and most young college folk in general. Fab may have done it more, and/or he may have been noticed/remembered more due to other allegations regarding him.

He's been limited 2+ years. That OATS procedure is a big deal. Brandon Triche had a knee injury in HS (not even as serious as an OATS procedure) and it was really his sophomore year before his bounce returned. DC2 came in at 285, then slimmed down and was moving great. Then the knee started in and he was out a long time. Since he returned this year, I've noticed a big improvement over the season with his mobility and quickness. He's not getting a huge amount of elevation, but he's getting up quicker with less effort. I think he's just discovering what he can do with his frame, and his soft touch. He also has an elbow jumper I'd like to see him develop confidence in. Next year should be a treat, watching him and Chukwu split time. Yes they'll make mistakes .. fouls, TO's, positional things on D. But count me as someone who's overjoyed that we finally have 2 legit post guys to complain about.

Have you ever watched Coleman's high school film? He was never explosive. He dominated against much smaller opponents. Coleman had the exact same bad habits in high school; he just got away with them because he was physically dominant.

Why would I watch his film. Watched him live in person. Of course he dominated in high school because of his size. He also dominated in the AAU circuit that's how he became the number one highschool center prospect. Ask Calipari how good he was.

Okay, so you saw him play. He was explosive? He played above the rim?

Yea. He was a high flying dunking machine. He made Russell Westbrook look like Earnie Seibert.

Okay, so I guess I'll assume from this sarcastic response, that you are admitting you're wrong.

No I'm not wrong DC will have his best season nex year. How did you like his game tonight?

My only argument with you is whether we was explosive in high school. He played very well in the second half tonite and I loved it.

I said he put in the effort to better himself on the court. For his freshman year, it appeared he thought he only had to be on the court to succeed. He found out differently and put in the work to make himself a defensive power. I was replying to SWC's comment about that he should never have left which would have required putting in the effort in the classroom.

If I remember correctly, he was #1 post player early but began to drop his jr and sr hs years. Was that because he was injured? I seem to remember he ALWAYS brought the ball down low and never was explosive to the hoop from freshmen year on.
