Clawson Resigns from Wake Forest

FWIW, Clawson played high school football with Moose Johnston. I believe they are good friends to this day. I remember when Clawson was mentioned in our coaching searches when DM or SS were hired. Wish we got him instead of SS.

Going way back, I think he was even in the conversation when we hired Grob. I think he was successful at FCS Fordham then.

Wake is lucky to have been grandfathered in up to this point. In some other reality they are another Tulane.
Wake offers less than Tulane. Since the SWC dissolved, taking Rice down with it, Wake has been the smallest school in a Major/Power conference. It is located in a mid-sized state that already has 3 Major conference members. Tulane is located in an exotic and exiting city to visit. That state, LA, per capita produces football talent out the wazoo. And right now LSU is the only LA school in a major conference.

Clawson's longtime OC should be a candidate, Warren Ruggiero. He's done a lot of good work without the benefit of large amounts of talent.

Well that makes it better. What's the middle name?

Yup right when we stop playing them annually they fall apart and probably will lose every ACC game next year.

We get Duke and UNC at home next year so naturally UNC goes from Brown to Belichick and Duke gets a better portal QB than Murphy.

Only our luck we were in a beast of a division since joining the ACC only to now see total collapse from WF, FSU, and Clemson coming back to Earth.

Master developer of talent. His thing was always get old and stay old with lots of 5th/6th year guys. Once NIL/portal changed, you saw them lose Hartman and the program could no longer compete. Pretty sad reflection of where the sport is at honestly. He was widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the country a few years ago and was on lists of every big school when they had a job opening. I’ve always respected the way he’s carried himself similar to Tony Bennett on the hoops side. He turned down offers from bigger programs and did it his way in Winston Salem
Meh there are casualties but the way things are have made the sport more transparent then ever, hence all of the sec faithful whining.
