Clemson Fan- My Thoughts

Agree wholeheartedly! However, you do know which state we recruited him from yes? ;)

When you grabbed him from NY we were just coming out of the worst bunch of years in our teams history. It would have said more about you had he chosen us over you at that point.

Plus, I'm not a huge Jim Kelly guy. Always seemed kind of arrogant.

Welcome to the ACC. Syracuse will be a great addition to the league.
I've been to the Syracuse/Watertown/Thousand Islands region several times. It's beautiful (especially in spring and fall). A lot of our fans might not be aware that your area is actually more pristine and rural than the Anderson-Greenville-Spartanburg region of South Carolina (the Clemson area). I wish I could have made this trip.
It probably can go unsaid that there are plenty of posters that pose as Clemson fans on boards such as this, and there are others that aren't "quite as informed" as they could be. But repeating what a few others have said, we generally have a classy, as well as enthusiastic, following. I'm betting that you'll find a size-able and loud, but respectful, group of Clemson folks in Syracuse this weekend.
I think a lot of our folks, but obviously not all, actually do understand what the Dome is going to be like. I sure hope our players are ready for it. Death Valley is incredibly loud and hot (much of the time) and is intimidating. But I also get that the Dome brings an enclosed feel and intense noise levels, and I do think some of our people are going to be surprised.
On the flip side, Syracuse fans might not fully get the speed they're going to face this weekend. Our defense is much better this year. And the offense is always pretty good. But when it's fully clicking, it's fun to watch. I hope we can get adjusted quickly to the claustrophobia, heat and noise. If we do that, we should be ok. If not, it could get more interesting than we want.
Good luck the rest of the year (excluding this weekend). Come down South next year. We'll show you a good time.

First of all, I want to welcome all of you guys to the ACC. Trust me when I say that I'm not one of the Clemson fans that feels overconfident. As long as I've been a Clemson fan, I know what can happen anytime 18-22 year old young men take the field. I never bet on my teams, but if I did, I would be very hesitant to take us to cover 13.5 (or 14 or whatever the current spread is). I still have an extremely vivid memory of what McNabb and company did to us in the bowl game. That stung to say the least! With that memory in mind, we owe you guys on Saturday and better get it done...because if we don't beat you on 100 yard long, 53.3 wide, I don't see us beating y'all (sorry for the Southern vernacular ;) you all) on the Bball court. Coach Boeiheim is one of, if not the best and classiest Bball coaches in the country. I like what Coach Brownell is doing down here, but we have a long way to go to be on par with you guys. Again, welcome to the ACC! Also, regardless of any of our classless fans that may post here, (every school has them) please don't let that be the impression you have regarding the vast majority of our fan base. If you guys can make it down here to hang out with us Southern boys next year, you'll see for yourselves the hospitable nature of TRUE Clemson fans. Good luck with the rest of your season (except Saturday of course) and Lord willing let none of these young men get hurt, regardless of the shade of orange they wear. Now, SPOT THE &@M^ BALL!
Welcome and thanks for your kind words. So far no classless Clemson posters on this board. All good.

In fact, some like you have gone overboard in their praise. e.g. You will eventually retract your comment that Boeheim is a classy coach. He's capable of acting classy but he's also capable of being a real D-ckhead! Most of us appreciate him but most opponents' fans come to despise him.

I'm sorry but I thought this is the football side - please post any bball comments where they belong - on the bball side.

But that affects the price of tea in china how? ?
It wasn't I who brought up "some garbage Louisville team" in this thread. I was merely responding that I would rather have their "garbage" QB than yours. That's all.

So, I've obviously never seen a game in the dome, but seen Clemson play in the UGA Dome quite often. I get that it is closed in, etc, and it isn't the same as other venues, but I also think it needs to be kept in perspective. I've never seen the Carrier Dome at the top of lists on toughest places to play (where Clemson is a fixture).

I'd be interested to see your take on where the Carrier Dome ranks compared to some other home fields that I have been to and/or are more familar with.

Here is the list:
FSU
Auburn
SC
UGA
GT
NC State
VT
UNC
MD
I've been to games at UGA and Auburn. The Auburn game was the 3OT thriller night game back in the early 2000's and that was a good, loud crowd. My impression of that stadium is that it is big, and tall, so that the field is enclosed as if in a canyon. Gets nice and loud. Was less impressed with UGA's stadium, seem to recall it being flatter and more spread out, more open. Plus it was a small-ish crowd for an unimportant game.

The Dome lacks the sheer scale of Auburn's field, but it is louder when the place is rocking. At a big open air stadium there is a "heavy" feel to the crowd noise, where you can tell that there are a gazillion people yelling. But the decibels top out and it's not as intimidating. In a full Dome, the effect is that you've got 50,000 people packed into a phone booth with you, and they are shouting right into your ears. It doesn't feel as "heavy" but it is sharper and louder.

The loudest noise I have ever heard at an outdoor stadium was at Legion Field for the opening round soccer game at the '96 Olympics. The US took the ball down and scored a goal in the first 30 seconds and the place erupted, spontaneous berserk. The Dome is louder.

Ask Dirk Koetter what he thinks ... he coaches for the Falcons and has stated on the record that when the Carrier Dome is packed it is one of the loudest places he has ever been ... The Georgia Dome here in Atlanta can't compare to the Carrier Dome for a bevy of reasons ... the layout and size of the Carrier Dome makes it easy to generate a ton of noise with a smaller crowd ...

Whenever someone wants to know how loud the Carrier Dome gets, I just say "ask Michael Vick" and think back fondly to the way Dwight Freeney planted him in the ground 4.5 times. Yes, I know we ended up losing that game, but that was the most dominant performance by a defensive player I've ever seen in person, considering the QB he was chasing around.

That was without question the loudest I've ever heard the Dome. The whole building was shaking almost from start to finish.

EDIT: My freshman year was the season after McNabb, so I missed the McNabb to Brominski game, and the Tennessee game, etc, so my frame of reference starts with the Troy Nunes/Madei Williams season.

I was at both of those games ... it was unreal ... it was like standing next to a jet aircraft.

I guess many of us wouldnt make the comparison because we haven't been to Clemson's stadium yet. I hear great things and i know a lot of us plan on making the trip next year. Until then,we wouldn't actually know what we were talking about. Similar to your experience in the Dome. Or lack thereof.

I don't think you came here to start anything but I think your unwillingness to accept that perhaps the Dome is an experience a bit different than you originally thought comes off as a bit d!ckish.

Congratulations on your success. Hopefully we can join you at the top of the ACC over the next few years.
its science. The pressurized air amplifies the noise.

You guys are a bit too much. The bottom line is Clemson is coming up to play in a basketball stadium, correct? The heat in the dome will never compare to the heat this team went through all summer (100+) with humidity during camp. Sure it gets loud, but 45k in a dome or 85 k at FSU/USC etc? I'd think Clemson has played in tougher places. I really like the passion you few are showing. Big ACC opener, want to show that you guys are respectable. Lets be real, this may be a bigger game than whatever bowl game has you. Clemson is #3 in the country not some garbage Louisville team with one player. 4/5 Stars at every position and every bench position. You guys are lucky to even have 2 four stars. I really dont even mean to disrespect but you guys are going to get light up by a Hesiman finalist.

Glad to hear about your Heisman finalist. I hope he wins so that Clemson can have a Heisman winner also... like Cuse has.

This team certainly doesn't roll over for anyone. We've been in pretty much every game the past few years (I guess minus Northwestern).

I have a theory. With Marrone, we never blew anyone out (even scrubs). And we never got blown out. With Shafer, we just blew out two teams for the first time in a long time. I think this may be coaching style. Shafer can probably get his team up, emotionally, better than Marrone who was very robotic. Conversely (sadly), I don't think we'll have as many upsets as we did with Marrone. We should beat who we're supposed to beat, and lose to who we're supposed to lose to. Just my guess, four games in.

I was at that game too. I was Sooo hoarse after that game. As I recall we were winning until the very end and sacked Vick on like his 5 yard line and then he broke a 95 yarder or something to win the game. That one hurt.

The dome is a unique place no doubt. There is a reason home field advantage exists...because of all you note. Heck, that's what makes it all the nicer to go and win on the road. I wouldn't try to convince you that it's hotter and more humid in clemson in august than it is in your sweltering dome, I also won't try to convince you that clemson at its quietest for a big game is louder than your 45k. We are fans, why would we give any of that up.

If you win, it's because yall whooped us for 60 minutes. Not because we expected to win or didn't prepare.

I do admit, I am kind of dreading our first visit to death valley......so know what you mean. May the whooping begin, and regardless of the outcome, all of our players come out of it healthy! To a rousing first ACC game in the Dome! Go Orange.....Syracuse Orange that is! SUball
