Clemson Fan- My Thoughts

We are probably in a bit of trouble when it comes to the pretty girls ranking. Just sayin'. Sigh, I probably just made a lot of enemies on the board.

Good post and thanks for the welcome to the ACC. A few things. This game is a statement game, win or lose for our program. Besides what others have said, there are a few variables that may effect this games outcome. First, we pretty much have talent from all over the country that bigger programs didn't want, so we have a major "chip" on the shoulders of many of the players on this team. That could pay dividends in this game. Second, this is a chance for Coach Shafer to send a message to players we recruited that shunned our program and 2 come to mind on your squad, EO (Who won't play) and Kelly (Unlikely to see him on the field). Our Coach sent a message out to recruits that spurned us, and it was clear that you better chose a school that doesn't play us. We will also have quite a few new recruits in attendance. Don't think that isn't a little in his mind, even though it is probably way back there. Third, the unknown. The Dome is more that just a Hot Box or Loud Stadium. It is that, I can assure you. But it is something that most players really never understand until you play in it. Some teams handle it, others clearly melt in it. Ask Geno Smith and Teddy Bridgewater. What makes our Dome different than any other? Its on campus and they sell beer, and mind you, us Upstate New Yorkers like our beer. I agree the start will be very important as to the output of the game, and I could also agree the score could be high, but that comes to our last variable, #4...the number 4 has very special meaning, especially when you put two them together. Like this.....44. And that my friend is a variable we have all been waiting for and its return.

I know the talent level will be hard to compete with, but i think we are being taken a bit to lightly, and Clemson, like almost all the ACC teams in the last decade it seems, finds a way to lose games. This will be the wake up call, Orange get ahead early, Clemson mounts a comeback but is overwhelmed at the end.

I got it Syracuse 44, Clemson 28

I warned you about the number 4 after all.
The dome is a unique place no doubt. There is a reason home field advantage exists...because of all you note. Heck, that's what makes it all the nicer to go and win on the road. I wouldn't try to convince you that it's hotter and more humid in clemson in august than it is in your sweltering dome, I also won't try to convince you that clemson at its quietest for a big game is louder than your 45k. We are fans, why would we give any of that up.

If you win, it's because yall whooped us for 60 minutes. Not because we expected to win or didn't prepare.

Stickers? Because the generic Southerner has the mentality of a 3rd grader. Don't even think about giving those people pins.

I kid

But seriously.

You guys are a bit too much. The bottom line is Clemson is coming up to play in a basketball stadium, correct? The heat in the dome will never compare to the heat this team went through all summer (100+) with humidity during camp. Sure it gets loud, but 45k in a dome or 85 k at FSU/USC etc? I'd think Clemson has played in tougher places. I really like the passion you few are showing. Big ACC opener, want to show that you guys are respectable. Lets be real, this may be a bigger game than whatever bowl game has you. Clemson is #3 in the country not some garbage Louisville team with one player. 4/5 Stars at every position and every bench position. You guys are lucky to even have 2 four stars. I really dont even mean to disrespect but you guys are going to get light up by a Hesiman finalist.

Wow. You're a priick. Congratulations.

Me thinks a gamecock has found this board...as we do not have a 5 * long snapper.

Question - are the coaching boxes still those tin cans in the sky? Because if so, those are the guys from Clemson that will hate it the most.

All you need do is look down about 10-14 spots spots or so from where your stadium is listed. Our program was down for a decade or more and in that time frame we weren't getting the crowds that would get us a higher rating. The Scott Shafer era has just begun, Marrone got us headed in the right direction. Once the Carrier Dome gets rocking and rolling for football again we will be listed higher.

Here are some comments and articles about the Dome when there are big crowds

With 34,616 in attendance at the SU-Villanova basketball game in February of 2010 this is the kind of noise it generated

HOW MUCH NOISE CAN FANS GENERATE? The crowd was loud from the moment people settled into their seats. A noise meter recorded regular decibels of 100 throughout the first half. When Kris Joseph flushed a dunk with 4:34 left in the first half to give Syracuse a 31-30 lead, the decibel level struck 115. That’s as loud as sandblasting or a rock concert. A military jet or a drag-racing car has decibel levels of 140.

It gets better

Built to keep the weather out, the Dome serves to
keep the sound in. To dispel any doubt that the Dome has
earned its nickname, "The Loud House," ESPN sound engineers
ran tests at the 2005 Syracuse-Notre Dame basketball
game. The record-breaking crowd of 33, 199-largest ever
to see a basketball game on a college campus-registered
a decibel level of 120, three ticks above the ESPN record.

January 26, 2010

The Syracuse student section came alive Monday Night as students lined up for the game against their rival Georgetown beginning Saturday as soon as the previous home game against Marquette ended.

By the time doors opened, approximately 325 students were on a list for the best seats in the student section, while several hundred more waited outside the Carrier Dome.

The student section which is now known as Otto's Army came prepared for battle. Nike supplied the first 200 students with Otto's Army "army helmets," 200 track jackets, and t-shirts to anyone who didn't get a jacket or helmet.

At one point, my colleague, Doug Whitehorn, got his I-Phone, downloaded an app to measure the decibel level in the Carrier Dome. It hit 105 decibels which was louder than the Saints' SuperDome on Sunday and the equivalent to standing next to a lawn mower.

Here's the highlights of the Syracuse University student section:

The Florida Gators can tell Miami a thing or two about Syracuse's Dome-field advantage.

"It's the loudest place we've ever played," says Florida offensive guard Jim Watson, remembering back to last year's 38-21 loss to the Orangemen. "It's not like anyplace else. It's like playing in a closet. The fans are right on top of you."

West Virginia coach Don Nehlen can tell the Hurricanes a thing or two about the deaf dome, too.
"Everybody's so close in there," Nehlen says. "I'm on the sideline, and I feel I can turn around and shake hands with the guy in the front row. If I get hungry, I can get a candy bar from him."

Everybody who has ever played there can tell the Miami Hurricanes a story about the decibel level in the Carrier Dome. But warnings would just fall on deaf ears.

With 30,000 screaming fans, the Dome mirrors the sound of a jet ...

Impressive stuff for sure. But, FWIW, Clemson's Death Valley reached 134 decibel levels during the 2007 Miami game and the 2011 FSU game. Having said that 120 is insane for such a small crowd of 33k (small by college football standards).

My initial thought is Penn State scored 34 points in that dome and our offense is light years ahead of theirs. We have solid on the road since the start of the 2012 season.

Think we win but don't cover the spread:

CU 42
Cuse 31

Glad to have you all in the ACC and lets hope its a clean game with no bad calls and no injuries.

Do NOT look forward to playing you all in basketball in January!

Damn...a seemingly respectful member of your own fanbase is distancing him/herself from you.

Yup...and I can probably trip at least one of them on their way up the aisle... ;)

I guess it would only be fair, since our Heisman finalist lit up Clemson (even if he was only a Freshman at the time).

Btw, I'd rather have Teddy Bridgewater as my QB than Tajh Boyd.

We didn't play Penn State in the dome this year.

But that affects the price of tea in china how? ?

They think our players are cocky because Hunt is confident, via this home spun propaganda: http://www.tigernet.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=1274327&tstart=0 Shafer's "lock them in the dome" is getting some play too.

I'll say one thing - for all of the classy Clemson fans posting here this week - their board is filled with overconfident blowhards. Sheesh. I was thinking I'd root for them vs FSU if they win vs us - but man, that forum is a akin to clogged toilet.
There are a lot of kids on that forum; it's free and full of idiots and Scar fans posing as Clemson fans.

We take 2 and 3 star athletes and make them better than your 4 or 5 stars  it's a style that has worked well for us.

Also Louisville beat the piss out of Florida last year with there "one player". A Florida team that held LSU to a smaller point total and won by a larger margin than Clemson.

As long as we keep churning out players like the Jones brothers, Nassib, Pugh, Mike Williams, Dwight Freeney, Steve Gregory, Tony Fiametta, and Shamarko Thomas..big etc. we'll be fine.

There have been enough quality, classy posters here that I'm confident all of Clemson's fandom isn't doomed ;). I won't be making it the game - but I hope the fans enjoy CNY. It's a beautiful place this time of year.

Hoping for a good game!

Nope. Dome is built for football and fitted to accommodate basketball. When it's filled and things are going right, it's one of the loudest venues in CFB. It's been a while - but I'm confident your arrival will bring out the best.

You're absolutely right. It's a cultural thing. Some people still insist Syracuse is a football school, and during the 90s you could have still made that argument. In the past 10-12 years, however, it has shifted to a basketball school.

But it does get extremely loud in the Dome. The atmosphere in the Dome when it's packed and there's a good game going on is tremendous. Hopefully you guys get to experience that (to be totally honest, I think you guys cover the spread on Saturday, but I hope it's at least competitive for the vast majority of the game).

First of all, I want to welcome all of you guys to the ACC. Trust me when I say that I'm not one of the Clemson fans that feels overconfident. As long as I've been a Clemson fan, I know what can happen anytime 18-22 year old young men take the field. I never bet on my teams, but if I did, I would be very hesitant to take us to cover 13.5 (or 14 or whatever the current spread is). I still have an extremely vivid memory of what McNabb and company did to us in the bowl game. That stung to say the least! With that memory in mind, we owe you guys on Saturday and better get it done...because if we don't beat you on 100 yard long, 53.3 wide, I don't see us beating y'all (sorry for the Southern vernacular ;) you all) on the Bball court. Coach Boeiheim is one of, if not the best and classiest Bball coaches in the country. I like what Coach Brownell is doing down here, but we have a long way to go to be on par with you guys. Again, welcome to the ACC! Also, regardless of any of our classless fans that may post here, (every school has them) please don't let that be the impression you have regarding the vast majority of our fan base. If you guys can make it down here to hang out with us Southern boys next year, you'll see for yourselves the hospitable nature of TRUE Clemson fans. Good luck with the rest of your season (except Saturday of course) and Lord willing let none of these young men get hurt, regardless of the shade of orange they wear. Now, SPOT THE &@M^ BALL!

Nothing would feed my brewing distaste for Clemson than to send them out of the Top 10. Some of these fans are straight up clowns. BTW, Chad "Swag" Kelly? Umm.

And thank you to the level-headed Clemson fans who've posted on this board. Look forward to having a beer with you!

Agree wholeheartedly! However, you do know which state we recruited him from yes? ;)
