Clemson OC leaving to be head coach at SMU

SMU: According to Sco ut’s Chip Brown, Clemson offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Chad Morris has agreed to become SMU’s next head coach, with a contract averaging more than $3 million per year.

A bit surprising. I expected him to start a bit further up the ladder, but since he's a Texas boy it makes more sense.

Wow, someone just got serious about football success. Too bad it isn't us...

true but they'll toil in AAC for years and Morris be gone sooner than later

Figured he could have gotten something better.
University Park is nice but SMU's glory days are long, long gone.

It will be interesting to see where Clemson goes for their next coordinator since they seemingly have an unlimited budget for assistants.

There aren't any other (current) openings in his home state of Texas.
If he does well then he might slide into one of the others when they become available.
There's no reason why SMU couldn't be top dog in the AAC eventually.

Boosters have to be helping with that salary as the AAC contract only pays SMU about 3.1 million per year.

Our nest head coach has to have a starting salary at least at the 2.5 million per year level. SS is rightfully paid on the low end since be wasn't a hot commodity or he didn't have any HC experience.

Scott Shafer makes about 1.5 million how much do we spend on all of his assistants? 1 million, 1.5 million?

SMU is serious about college football.

Morris picked a first HC job where he can succeed . He could Have landed a job at a mid-tier P5 school easy , then it would have been a challenge.

You'd better hurry. I hear that Cool Kid has already contacted Dabo.

Any chance this opens up some of their recruits and potentially weakens their class this year?

Only offensive commit I saw with an SU offer is Deon Cain, from Tampa, who projects as a WR at the next level. However, he's got offers from lotsa big name schools should he decide to reopen recruiting.

I wasn't anticipating anyone coming here. But there class being somewhat disassembled causing their team to be down for awhile would be nice given if everything goes well in 2 years we should be ready to compete against top teams again

3M lol. We pay less than half that, we are NOT serious about football. Even if you find the diamond up and comer here for 1.5M, after 2 or 3 successful seasons that guy will move onto to greener ($$$$) pastures.

Unless we poney up and pay the up and comer. We are in uncharted territory with ACC $. Signs point to being cheap - but you never know.

just imagine if somebody said...would you consider mcdonald or lester??

the laughter would be heard echoing for decades in P5 land...

Scott Shafer doesn't deserve more money atleast we are paying him his market value. Our last HC search was rushed because of timing.
I just wish people would realize $$$ shouldn't be a problem if we wanted to buyout SS. If our athletic department has so much debt with the ACC money and MetLife money then Dr. Gross has to got to go.

Our next HC should have a starting salary of 2.5'million per yr. Our AD is cheap when it has come to paying our revenue sports (FB and Men's BB).

Now if someone could just take Venables. Not sure who is looking for a defensive minded HC these days.
