Clemson OC leaving to be head coach at SMU

3M lol. We pay less than half that, we are NOT serious about football. Even if you find the diamond up and comer here for 1.5M, after 2 or 3 successful seasons that guy will move onto to greener ($$$$) pastures.
What a joke of a post.

SU would pay more for the right candidate. Would you have paid HCSS more money? Would he have coached better?
Do you pay the car dealership twice the list price for your car, expecting that it will drive better? Really?

There were exactly 31 days between FHCDM leaving and national signing day... a month after the coaching musical chairs season opened. All coaches that were looking to move had already done so. There was no time to conduct a full search and then have that candidate fill a staff before signing day. What would you have done?

The next time that SU's position becomes available, it will pay the appropriate rate for the candidate in question. Will there be a $5M budget for a head coach? Most likely not. But to insinuate that SU isn't prepared to pay more than the absolute minimum is simply false.

Now if someone could just take Venables. Not sure who is looking for a defensive minded HC these days.
I saw something about this on another board. The post said if you're in this situation, you've got to find an OC who you can trust to run things completely on their own and then stay out of their way in recruiting and gameday management. No small task because you're putting your job completely in someone else's hands, even more, IMO, than an offense-oriented HC turning over running everything about the defense to the DC.

Morris picked a first HC job where he can succeed . He could Have landed a job at a mid-tier P5 school easy , then it would have been a challenge.
Don't discount the money involved. For that kind of money a lot of good coaches would give it a shot - what do they have to lose? They have FY money after a gig like that.

WHy is it a joke of a post? No i would not pay HCSS more money, and no i wouldnt have expected him to coach better. But had SU decided it was going to pay 3M a year, I AM SURE they could have lured a great candidate away from almost ANY institution for that much money. They decided to pay 1.25, which gets you HCSS.

We just build a IPF and are exploring a site for a new stadium - what does that make us - chopped liver?

I was thinking more along the lines of Liverwurst.

And Ruth Buzzi just got a new Mustang and is looking at 34DD bras.

Washington State? Just off the top of my head

Venables was run out of Oklahoma because his defense was not producing in the offensive dominated Big XII. The guy has done a decent job at Clemson, but Clemson until this year rose nationally because of its offense. I don't see Venables as a sure fire HC that could produce. If Dabo got the Florida job I doubt they would hand the keys to Venables. I think Venables first HC should be in the mold of Diaco getting a lower AAC/CUSA job and moving up to a P5 job.
