Clemson Post-Mortem

Speaking is Villari…I hated hated hated the timing of the trick play.

Villari had just had a huge play and was likely a little winded. Then had to immediately execute the trick play. His throw was behind Brown (who should have caught it anyway). Luckily we scored anyway, but…

Really a bummer he was hurt. The Clemson secondary did not want to tackle a big guy running down field.

justin barron was probably our best defender today. what's his status ?

Looking ahead to UNC. I might regret this, but Drake Maye has 5 TD to 4 INT. I have a good feeling about Rocky Long’s defense in this one. Hopefully UNC is also looking ahead to Miami the next week.
Unc has this week off, blah..,,

We gave them the game
1.) insane decision to kick the field goal which led to seven points the other way. Our defense was playing well just punt.
2.) signature awful drops by the receivers.
3.) two dropped potential pick sixes
4.) some unforgivable turnovers like the second fumble
5.) insane costly penalties like Wax’s though that one didn’t cost us-our defensive backs turned uncatchable passes into pass interferences because they don’t turn around and find the ball. Plus the usual pre-snap penalties.
6.) inexplicably calling long passes down the sideline when our offense had been working, particularly with shorter passes and getting the ball to Allen.
7.) Shrader sliding on designed runs when there were more yards to get. He looked hesitant to run after he fumbled on the opening drive.

Alford and Hatcher aren’t it vs top 25 teams. Would like to see Adams and Long in

A shame that we don’t get to see Gadsden and Jones, with Pena/Brown in the slot and Alford as the 4th guy. Can’t lose 3 of your top 5, including hands down the best guy we have. We just don’t have the depth for that.

Welcome to another year of cuse football.

The question is will the injury situation across the squad get so dire that the wheels fly off again and the second have of the season is a write-off.

Ingraham played a lot today and was a beast.

Farmer and Bellamy looked like they played the majority of the 2nd half snaps

Ellis played a ton in the second half (and struggled). Bleich slid over don’t know if Bradford got hurt.

Sparrow seemed to be on the field a lot in the second half
They rotated the guards. Ellis is probably weeks away from having his conditioning to go 75 snaps.

Could be wrong but it at least seems like our defense is better positioned depth wise this year to hold up all season?

If that proves to be true and we can keep Shrader relatively healthy, that should hopefully be enough to have a decent chance to win a lot of the weeks this year?

But to beat the top teams - we really needed Gadsden.

Waiting for the light to go on for Alford... He seems to have the size, skills, and athleticism but loses focus or confidence when better P5 players are on him... or maybe that's just his ceiling - he is a junior. But some of his issues seem to be a lack of confidence... just my perception. I could be wrong.

He’s a ticking time bomb at that weight. Being so overweight just makes you less mobile and more injury prone.

IMO he is closer to being White 2.0 than being an effective player.
