Clemson Postgame Party Thread

I was at Manley when the Beach Boys played there. Probably around 1971 or so. Someone in the crowd yelled 'Play Surf City!' At which point, Mike Love (I THINK it was Mike Love) castigated the crowd for its 'pig mentality'.

Never liked Mike Love.
I thought it was Fall of 1970. Peter Yarrow opened for them.

Agree about Mike Love.

First off, I hate that Steve Angeli was injured and I wish the young man a complete recovery soon! Secondly, fantastic win, Syracuse faithful. I'm impressed with your athletes (clutch performances from Angeli, Willis, Cook, Long Jr., Grant, Ross-Simmons, etc.) and I admire the coaching strategies employed by Fran Brown and his staff. Here's to continued success for the Orange moving forward and a great post-season...
Likewise, Clemson has the tools but just not quite putting things together. The tigers will roar again.

I was there for the 6-16 Scott Shafer loss and Clemson fans were class before and after game. My friend, a Clemson alum, was showing me around campus the day before the game. I was wearing a Syracuse shirt. At least a half dozen students said "Welcome to Clemson" to me. Florida State is another story, students were dirtbags and nasty, even after they obliterated us.
Yep same here. Unfortunately, I was down there for the 59 to nothing loss and a couple Clemson fans were engaging me in seeing my depression, being the New Yorker I am I thought they were giving me the business and rubbing it in. Took me a minute or two to realize they actually felt bad for me/us and were attempting to console! It was so surreal.

Ever since Dabo came into our locker room after Dino, Dungey and company beat them, I tend to root for him when they aren’t playing Syracuse. It is really hard to sustain the level of success he has had in Clemson. I was surprised he didn’t leave for Alabama when Saban retired. It felt from the outside looking in that a former player who has won national titles would be the ideal candidate for the next coach at Alabama.

That said he has proven his loyalty to Clemson and earned the right to try to build his program the way he always has done it. He was upset at the roughing the passer calls because it is so hard to rush the passer now. I don’t know how these guys can hold up and still be aggressive at the same time. The second hit was close to targeting but it did appear to this viewer that he led with his shoulder and kind of hit the qb in the head. It was a close play and he was trying to be loyal to his players which I kind of respect. You can rip me if you want to but I think it was admirable that he was trying to defend his guys. I think Fran would have had a similar reaction.

Syracuse seems to have the right coach for this new model of always recruiting. You are recruiting your current roster and prospective players at all times right now it seems. Fran seems to really understand the current climate of college football. He has done so many of the right things since he started. He is active in the community both the city neighborhoods and the university. His free football camp was such a great gesture. I loved when he played pick up football with SU students in Walnut Park.

Dabo was a position coach with no coordinator experience as I recall before he took over the head coaching job at Clemson. I see a lot of similarities in Fran and Dabo. Dabo like many tenured coaches has to realize that the world has changed and he needs to embrace the portal and NIL as it is not going to be the same landscape as 2016 and 2018.

I loved today’s game. I think the first half was the best coached half that Fran has had since he arrived. The rest of the game had some moments that can be second guessed. Throughout the game. He was playing to win. Something we haven’t really had at SU for a while. Mac was like that not being satisfied and frustrated with the tie against Auburn. Going for two against West Virginia that same year. Coach P, Dino, Shafer and Marrone made a lot of less risky plays. Punting on their own side of the 50, trying for field goals to make a game close when going for the td was the risky, play to win effort.

I hope Angeli injury is not a season ender for him. If it is and Collins or another QB can’t keep the course and ensure a successful season, I have seen enough to say that Fran is our guy after today.

Sorry for the long post. I am so pumped about today’s game and hope it is the springboard for a bowl season this year. Couldn’t be happier having Fran lead us!

Go ORANGE!

Great great post. Angelis done for the year unfortunately, Achilles rupture without question God blessed!

If your Syvereud or Wildhack extension talks need to be commenced now, SEC teams already circling. Massive buyout needed.
We will. But you may never hear about it unless we want to publicize it. We rarely talk about contracts publicly.

Fans need to step up too and show up to the Dome week in and week out. We also need NYS businesses to step up on NIl. We have a unicorn who wants to be here. We need to support him.

I'll take issue with the response to the roughing the passer calls. Dabo was absolutely furious with both of them but especially the second one, even though it was very obvious and the targeting infraction was dropped; it came across to me that he thought his defensive guys should be allowed to rough up our QB without penalty. Screw him.

He got a phantom hold call against Syracuse on the next play after the first roughing call. . Hissy Fits have been fruitful for him in the past.

Amazing win. I didn't think we would be able to score on their D. That first half was perfect. Nixon is special. Although I wish he wasn't allergic to running the ball. Especially after Angeli went down. Even more so when we were trying to kill clock.

From the replay Angeli's foot went sideways, which to me wouldn't indicate an achilles. Unless it happened the step prior. I would guess that it is an ankle injury.

Had the injury not occurred, we legit had a chance at a big season. But I think there is a huge drop off with Collins.

Great job by ERob. We could have been even better had we not taken poor angles on a few TFL or Sacks that were missed. That first Clemson TD should have never happened.

Our pass coverage has been very good lately. But I am still unsure if we can stop the run. I think Clemson played into our hands putting the game on the most overrated QB every year in the last three years.

Also we looked great vs GA Tech last year and then it went downhill. We need this not to be a one off on D. Grant is good around the LOS, and had a great game.

What a jump for the STs. The KO out of bounds stunk but everything else went well.

Going into today I was confident that we would beat Duke. It stinks that this is now in doubt with Angeli out. Also Fran better remind the team of last year going from a high to a low (GA Tech/Stanford). Don't want that to happen again.

The first was was BS. The 2nd one was targeting. It was well after the pass and the kid jumped into Angeli high. It was a dirty play.
