Clemson Postgame Party Thread

It was a classic example of why stats don’t always tell the story, Our D did exactly what it needed to do in the 2nd half!
I imagine the nerdy stuff would be a lot more favorable to the defense than total yards. I don't know what the college version of DVOA/EPA/Success Rate are. Stopped them over and over without any lucky bounces for the most part (could tell EJ Manuel didn't watch the game referencing two turnovers as a key).

That was clearly evident when watching the game. We measured up with them size-wise at every position. It's the first time in forever that we've seen that, and it felt really good to see it. Almost a sense of pride, if that makes sense.

If Collins can get comfortable, I think we can surprise a few more teams this year. Size matters.

Talk about self-deception . . .
Crowing about leading the nation in passing by posting 800+ yards against UConn & Colgate (at home) is pretty lame. Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled he put the numbers up, but I'm not foolish enough to puff out my chest for that illusion.
Now compare Angeli's first game (274 yards, 1 TD, 1 into, -27 yds rushing) with his abbreviated and best game (18/34 for 244 with 2 TDs). Angeli was magic out there yesterday. Not perfect, but better. Even more poised. In his earlier games he also threw a wobbly pass here and there. How many highlight catches did Ross-Simmons and Daryl Gill have when Angeli threw not-so-perfect passes.
For some reason, you still want to denigrate Collins's ability. I believe the coaches have a lot to do with the success of our QBs. If you open your eyes, you'll see there is also a "stark difference" between early Angeli and yesterday's version. That's talent and coaching.
Two 4 star QBs, two top level programs, LSU & ND. You may think HCFB was blowing smoke up our a$$es when he called their competition 51-49 in early August, but I take that man at his word.
Of course, you know better 🙄
I watch games, and Angeli is better than Collins, I hope Collins improves.

Rickie played a quarter against Colgate and then came in suddenly in a big away game. Maybe he didn't hit the ground running but we haven't seen the real Rickie yet. The one that I've heard drops dimes like that TD pass all over Lally.
I'm 100% sure the coaches told Rickie no matter take care of the ball. Don't force anything. If you don't see the receiver tuck it and run which he tried to do a few times but never got his legs under him.

I think honestly the Clemson Defense went into desperation mode late in the 3rd and started playing much better when they thought a comeback could be possible with Angeli not flinging it. Rewatch a few sacks Rickie took, it wasn't all on him OL got beat in multiple positions. I think there were 2 drops as well.

I am pumped to have him get his start against Duke at the dome. I'm sure there'll be plenty of threads on Duke but 15 seconds of looking at their defense. They have the worse Red zone defense in the ACC and have the 2nd to worst defensive efficiency in the ACC (they beat out Va Tech for that spot).

I'll take issue with the response to the roughing the passer calls. Dabo was absolutely furious with both of them but especially the second one, even though it was very obvious and the targeting infraction was dropped; it came across to me that he thought his defensive guys should be allowed to rough up our QB without penalty. Screw him.
Heaven forbid an opposing coach worked the officials!

He freakin led the nation in passing...Ricki Collins was 3 for 8 and even his 3 completions weren't accurate passes. The talent difference between the two is quite stark right now. Anything otherwise is trying to make your self feel better through self deception.
Saying Rickie isn’t as talented as Steve is crazy. Rickie was a 4-star recruit coming out of high school, and he clearly has more upside than Steve — everybody knows that. Sure, his floor might be lower, but that’s part of developing a young QB. Give the kid a real chance before you start throwing around opinions.

Not true. Big mistakes by braheem Long with the taunting penalty and Yasin Willis false start could’ve cost us the game
Yup, there's no such thing as playing a "mistake free" game. That's why I hate when folks suggest a team has to play "mistake free" to pull an upset. It's not possible. Mistakes happen. Lots of them. Even when a team plays well and wins.

Our D missed tackles and blew some assignments, particularly on some drives in the first half. Our receivers dropped some catchable balls (they also made some sick catches as well, mind you). We had a multitude of passes batted down at the LOS. And there were a couple really bad penalties.

Thing is, Clemson made a ton of mistakes too. None of this stuff happens in a vacuum.

I think the key to winning football games is to limit your mistakes as much as possible, and overcome the ones you inevitably make. I'd say more football games are lost than won, if that makes sense? Yesterday, SU won.

Yup they both have shutdown corner potential. Peal is very close to that now. Peal only a sophomore too and Samuel a freshman….dangerous with Kerr as a 3 third/nickel corner too. That’s a really good corner room.

Also I want to shoutout Braheem Long. I think he had been VERY solid this year. He had the boneheaded taunting play yesterday which really wasn’t that bad tbh. But made a great play before the taunting. He has been REALLY good this year. He’s fast, a solid tackler, seems to always be in position. I am more than okay seeing him take over a starting Saftey spot next
And I watched a player do something similar after a touchdown in the ASU game, and no flag was thrown. It was not flag worthy of a taunt, but a player who was excited bt the play. This is not church or Sunday school on SUnday morning. It is football, and players get pumped up. I believe celebration should be allowed.

Archie manning taunted far worse than what Braheem did and guess whether Archie got a taunting penalty or not……
Yeah, I saw that and was like

Personally, I thought the taunting was a borderline call. When I saw him stand up and throw is fist in celebration while looking at the QB on the ground... I thought "uh oh". Its the kind of call that happens on the road. The mistake was looking down at him while he did it, makes it taunting. It wasn't a "have to throw the flag" type thing... but definitely enough to draw the penalty.

This is why I talk so much about making decisions that increase a team's margin for error.

Absolutely this.

Everything #0 did would've been fine if he'd just been turned the other way. I'm not 100% sure why the rule works like that (maybe they're trying to get ahead of fights?) but that's the way it works. Especially on TV you mostly just see the celebration but the flag is in that detail of it.

What’s mind blowing to me is how many young guys are stepping up. Regardless of what happens the rest of the year, we will return most of our players on both sides. This could be special in 26 and 27, but for right now I think we can get to 8 wins this year.
The entire culture has shifted. We are bringing in guys expecting to win and are putting in the work to do so.

Classiest coolest opponent fan base I’ve ever seen both here in the Cuse and on my trips to Death Valley, and it continues. Thank you for the comments. We hope we’re heading toward special times. Without qb1 it’ll be tough but we could still have a good year. Thx again for the visit here.
I thought it was funny when the tiger mascot helped Gill up after he caught the TD. Good mascot sportsmanship.
