Clemson Postgame

I laughed when I saw someone ask Clemsons coach about our offense. He tried to defend the movement and all I could think was, “acc coaches must love having an automatic win on the schedule.”
Yup, makes me think of when Marcus Freeman was interviewed at half time of the ND game. Play Syracuse and you have to come up with some creative ways to keep it classy when talking about our football or basketball team. (sigh)

The best part about any Nait George slander is the dude literally led the ACC in assists last year and he comes here and turns into a pumpkin. This isn’t an A10 kid we hope we can turn into a legitimate ACC PG - he’s already proven it at this level.

It’s a full indictment of Red and his “offense”

Id rather have Carlos at pg right now, whatever he did this off-season, dont bottle it and try selling it.

I’m not so sure the talent is there - our guards look average age at best - Kingz is our best guard but he doesn’t take games over - Nait has been a big bust which is odd because he played well last year - I don’t know what to make of JJ

FWIW, “much better” didn’t result in statistically significant improvements in any stats except turnovers (1 fewer per game).

For being completely misused here, you’d expect to see the better play result in better stats.

Girard went from 36.3% on threes and 39.8% on twos (not a typo!) to 43.0 and 46.3, respectively. Increased his true shooting% from 52.6 to 62.5.

Lots of Outcoached comments. No need to state the obvious here.

Autry was given his shot and isn't figuring it out fast enough., it's that simple. Brownell has 25 years of HC experience, Autry has 2 and a third years as of today. Even a few possessions where the coach makes an impact is enough to swing games in the ACC.

The game has changed and it’s either win or get bounced.

The only player positive is see is that I don't see alot of quit in this team which is nice but it doesn't win games or make a tourney team.

Last thing I’ll say is that these losses are ones that leave no doubts for a regime change and after the last coaching change debacle it’s not such a bad thing. It’s never good to lose but I also don’t want there to be some big what if waiting for the shoe to drop. There was no questionable what ifs at the end of the game. The team is back to full strength and more talented and we’re at home against another bubble team.

It’s time:)

I think we have better talent too, but my fear early in the year( before I knew foul shooting would be our biggest problem) was that we would get big boyed too easily. At the time several posters assured me, this would not be a problem . Today We got bullied in the paint, just like we were bullied by some mid majors. We are athletic, but not big and strong enough. The difference in the game was that we could not stop what they do best.
I’ve spent time on the court watching us warm up. Outside of maybe Houston and Kansas we have been the bigger and better looking team in warm up’s. We just are not tough enough mentally. You take on the personality of your coach and that’s what we are seeing.

Not to steal one from Fran but it’s discipline.

It takes two to tango tho too. Put it on the coaches first and foremost it’s Autry that will be canned but the players play a part too.

The guards are not disciplined and before people cry for JJ and Naits heads they better rewatch how soft Kiyan and the other guards play. It’s all of them which is pretty ridiculous given our Head Coach was an elite guard in his day. Clearly he can recruit the position but not coach it offensively.

Ha, I just started watching and stopped after 52 seconds.

Red “felt like we didn’t move the ball around for the first time this year on offense” and “We couldn’t get JJ going. He’s a big part of what we do”.

Can’t take him seriously to listen to anymore nonsense.
Cmon that’s not a real quote is it? “We didn’t move the ball around for the FIRST TIME?” You have to be messing with me

Btw, I really want to know the catastrophic events that would have happened if we had bucked JB and hired an outside hire. Because between the end of JB’s tenure and with Red so far, it’s been pretty awful.

I’m serious - can someone tell me?

I keep hearing how hell would come down upon the earth due to it.

But Syracuse basketball is literally only the memories of years gone by at this point.

Anyone?

Still seeing people pretend they were on this side and understood analytics when they didn’t lmao.

God bless.

The bottom line is Red has people on this board talking like Brad Brownell is a basketball savant.
[/QUOTE]
Brownell is for sure not. Autry just isn’t ready for the chair. Brownell has been on his own hot seat a few times. He has 25 years as a D1 Head Coach tho which is Kindve crazy. Thats 10X as many games coached as Autry.

Difference is Brownell knows his rosters strength and what they’re good at. Autry does not.

Give Autry credit for defense but he’s lost on offense and this isn’t the old big east days of grinding out a 47 point win. You need to score in this league now to win. He should’ve hired an offensive guru and just stuck to defense but he’s too stubborn.

I never thought it was just about JB. Rather, it was about his legion of loyal former players and the JB-connected boosters.

I mean, Derrick Coleman went off the rails last season and started crap with Eddie Lampkin. Guys like him, Etan, and a few dozen others probably would have sniped at the program endlessly had Red been bypassed.

Maybe it wouldn’t have mattered. Maybe a different HC would have shrugged it off and done well.

But let’s not forget that the mere act of getting JB out the door was very difficult and required a deft touch. If many board members and boosters had their way, Boeheim would still be the coach right now!

The guy said he’d decide when he leaves mere days before he was pushed out. And make no mistake, he was pushed out. But to do so required politics and Red was the means to that end.

That’s the truth.

And the coaching is not.

Seems incredibly clear at this point.
Coaching is over rated! Talent wins. With the transfer portal, rosters change dramatically every year. Players don't stay long enough to be developed like the old days. Switching coaches...isn't going to make any difference...unless he is a recruiting powerhouse who can consistently get us talent. Look at Duke: they just signed a class of three 5 star players and one 4 star. Is their coach a great coach? or Duke is duke and they attract great players.

This is wrong. Coaching matters MORE in an era of constant roster turnover, not less.

Once upon a time you landed a few great players and the team was set for 3-4 years. Now a coach has to not only recruit players but also get disparate pieces to be functional and thrive within weeks of them assembling on campus.

A different SU coach would make a huge difference with this team. If you can’t see that I can’t help you.

He went from 38% from three and 40% from two to 41% and 43%. Neither is indicative of an improvement beyond what you’d expect from a 5th year senior. Using his junior year stats (his high from 3), he was 40% from three and 39% from two.

There is no chance you tried to use his career average here as a meaningful comparison.

I think it's safe to start the doomsday clock on the Adrian Autry era deathwatch...

It was probably safe to start that clock after Hofstra

I'm gonna start looking at the end of the season calendar and start counting down to when I think the season ends

Also anyone notice Melo bolt right out of there during the end of game review
