Kudos to Clemson for game preparation that led the way to victory. When the game started, the only section that was in their seats were the Clemson fans. That was an omen. It was the same way on the field. Clemson started the game ready to play and put us on our heels immediately. They had three scoring drives in the 1st quarter and only one 3rd down total in those three drives. They had 12 offensive plays in the 1st quarter that went for 10+ yards and ran them in quick succession. Two of their drives ended with 40+ yard passes and the other had a 24 yard pass. However they had it schemed, it worked and largely because of Boyd's talent, plus the 6 receivers he threw to in the quarter.
It was the same way on defense. Our first 3 drives all led to quick punts with only one 1st down between them and that one a Hunt scramble on a 3rd & 9. Clemson came ready to play and took the crowd out of the game immediately, or rather 38 seconds and 3 plays into their first possession. It was great to be part of a large crowd and to demonstrate that SU's fans could come out in force, but it could have been much more dramatic if we were as ready to play as they were. We generally look for the poor play of our team as the root cause of a loss, but lets not overlook how prepared Clemson was to execute their game plan. They're a good team. I wish them good fortune.
