Closer Look @ SU Unis

I'm more than happy to keep an open mind despite the fact the numerals are horrendous.

Agree.

The numbers are the biggest problem, and the fact the orange numbers are hard to see against the blue jerseys.

But we've had a half dozen different unis over the last 10 years. So it's only a matter of time before they change again.

Don't believe anyone telling you 100% of anyone loves them. It's a trick question and answer and I doubt every recruit was asked. They aren't going to say they don't like them and they certainly weren't given a choice. "Which do you like better? These, these, or these?" They may like them but they might like something even more. Sounds like one of those political polls that elicit a specific answer.

Not all the players like them.

I know that but didn't want to go there.

I have both of the new T-Shirts already, both have the "Lock The Gate" on the back of the shirt below the neck line on the outside. Love them.

Where do you get these?

Where do you get these?

They are on Cuse.com and at Great Northern Mall locally as well as Manny's on the hill. Google new SU T-Shirts and there are a a few places you can get them.

The last two years have been close to perfect. Like the crossed 4's. Everything else is crap.

Lucky for us, your eligibility expired circa 1996 ;).

It's really difficult to judge a uniform until you see 11 players on the field wearing them in action.

Some look good in a photo, and lousy on the field or court. And vice versa.

I definitely prefer more orange, but given some of the atrocities we see in the college game these days, I don't think these are the end of the world. And the crossed 44 is freakin' sweet, that's not debatable.

its just comical that a school calling itself 'the Orange', deemphasize's that color so much.

while other schools embrace it and come up with a cool Orange heavy uni.

embarrassing.

I still think all will be remedied when we get the orange unis next year. I think it's ridiculous we have to wait a year for their release, but when they get here it will be delightful to have Orange back in the fold everywhere.

It's odd, to be sure.

It's funny, the uniforms of the 80s and 90s that most here really like never had an orange jersey, but it was the orange pants/orange helmet that made the combo orange "enough".

I guess college football style is all about monochromatic matching of jerseys and pants these days. But if we just had orange pants for those blue, white and gray jerseys I think we'd be OK.

I've been watching SU since the early 70's.

I've seen the orange helmet/blue jersey/orange pants combo more than any other, and I'll bet that's what most people identify with.

Sucks to see it go away. Change is not always a good thing.

Uniform Nation's 2014 ACC uniform rankings

In the past decade or so, Syracuse has had a hard time committing to one look. The Orange added a block "S" to the side of the helmets and slightly modified the jerseys until they had a pretty solid look...until now. The number font alone is enough to put Syracuse at the bottom of this list.

This person is obviously a traditionalist. Georgia Tech's Russel uniforms are better then nobodies. Same with Pitt.

I think we will see some very nice combo's with ours.

If we are talking about the kids, and recruits I have little doubt far more like them, then don't like them. These kids aren't in their 40's, they don't want to wear the old looking McNabb era uniforms with the stripes on the pants and helmet.

I don't understand the need for the helmet color to change along with the uni.

The helmets should stay Orange no matter what. I can deal with everything else.

Yeah, I think having so little orange in our uniforms is pretty damn goofy. But I've also learned to not care so much anymore.

College sports is a total cluster@&$# when it comes to uniforms. There seems to be no general oversight, as there is in the professional leagues, and manufacturers seem to use it as a test bed for wacky designs.

Some people defer to the players liking new designs, but I'd challenge anyone to find one instance of a team saying that they DIDN'T like a new design. And in a sport that is so driven by money, I find it funny, bordering on absurd, that we're to believe that it's the opinion of players that drives these changes. Baloney. It's marketing and sales. It i$ alway$ about marketing and $ale$.

And the state of our uniforms over the past decade seems to be a reflection of our school's long standing discomfort with it's own nickname and color. First they wanted to drop Otto, then drop Orangemen, then they dropped the "men", then Cantor made all university correspondence orange and maroon, etc/

Sometimes I think they should have just changed our nickname to Chargers or Wolf Pack or whatever, changed the school colors to teal and L.L. Bean heather gray, and spared us all this bizarre angst.

So, you are saying that all Penn St recruits are in the 40's?

Penn St doesn't have the old, outdated lines on the pants. They are solid, and modern looking. Plus they haven't changed uniforms 4 times in the past decade.

This is exactly right.

And what does Ohio State have?

My favorite kind of post: old guys talking about clothes designed for 19 year olds, that they themselves will never wear.

Up next, guys will pick out old style jerseys that were popular when they were students, 20 years ago.

;)
