Right. Dude’s 106-21 over last 4 seasons. Grass is not always greener elsewhere.I don’t see that. He’s as safe as can be in only year 2. And his buyout is probably astronomical.

Matt Norlander mentioned in passing that Syracuse has reached out to Schertz. I don't keep close enough tabs on all the threads on here to know if that's new news, but there you go. I also think this year is a buyer's market. We're the top job this go-round, but I don't know that anyone would put us in the top 15-20 jobs in the sport, which these days is mainly a reflection of NIL resources and donor attitudes and what your upside is within the conference.
Gary Parrish said that Schertz has SLU's gym packed even against the dregs of their conference. It's a really good situation for a midmajor in terms of resources and fanbase buy-in. Would he cash out now to go to an upper-middle power conference program (my descriptor) just because it pays more and gets you more resources but you'll rarely have a shot at a conference title and you could get swallowed up by a fanbase that doesn't have any regard for what you've done in the past, or would he prefer to get raises at SLU at least until a bigger job opens? That's the sort of thing he has to wrestle with, and I'm sure he has to a certain extent.
Schertz being an east coast guy I think Providence is a real possibility. Plus it’s Catholic like SLU.Here’s an interesting thought experiment:
Suppose every coach’s contract in D1 was invalidated and everyone was essentially a free agent. No buyouts on either side.
Where do the chips fall? How many of the big programs are 1000% happy with who they have when they get a one-time chance to throw funny money at a guy like Izzo, Self, or Hurley.
Once the musical chairs stopped, did SU get a top 15-20 coach?
No one coaches at K-State because they want to be there:manhattan KS isnt that great for an east coast guy...very farmy and not so fun...an east coaster can make it in Lawrence KS though if Self steps down.
My last 8 months in the service were at Fort Riley. Out of 4 years from Aug 64-Aug 68 that was the only station I didn't like. Even basic training at Fort Dix was better. No one coaches at K-State because they want to be there:
Huggins - Took the job to rehab his image after his ouster from Cincy.
Frank Martin - Huggins assistant who after 5 years left for a South Carolina program with no prestige to speak of.
Bruce Weber - Fired from Illinois. Had a couple good seasons with Martin's leftovers but slumped for three years after, then finally had a couple perfectly timed seasons resulting in KSU extending him, and he immediately tanked and the school wanted to fire him but couldn't get the money together so he stayed for a lame duck year and that was that.
Jerome Tang - Don't know if he had other offers that cycle, but that was a Godfather situation if there ever was one. They gave him $2M to leave Baylor despite no HC experience and only working at one school. He had the fluky E8 run in his first year and they immediately extended him to $3M+ annually. When they fired him last month they owed him $18M and are now trying to wiggle out of it in court.
We have a head coach.I like hearing that we officially reached out to Schertz. The AD has to kick those tires from a due diligence standpoint even if BH is the lean. That also silences those who say Syracuse doesn't "try" or actually look outside the family. Also to get BH or Schertz it will need to be a 4 or 5 year and probably a competitive per annum. So if Syracuse reals one of those two in we can stop the Syracuse is cheap talk as well.
Officially unofficial reached out?We have a head coach.
We haven't officially reached out to anyone.
Probably talked to his agent to gauge interest.Officially unofficial reached out?

Nowhat if we keep Red and just invest in transfers
what if we keep Red and just invest in transfers
What if we took our NIL money and lit it all on fire instead?
We did that two years in a row nowwhat if we keep Red and just invest in transfers
I posted this probably about 30 pages ago in this thread.I just had the thought, Eric Devendorf on BH staff? I just feel like out of all the alums, if an assistant made sense it’s Devo. Think about it, he would’ve thrived in Hodgson system with the way he played. I feel like the two personalities could mesh well. I think it could be a good move for Hodgson to get an alum involved. Devo is a great communicator. Maybe he can develop as a coach working with a guy like Hodgson. Though, do I even want that lol. I like Devo in the media!
Can’t confirm
Schertz isn’t leaving Saint Louis for Providence. That’s not happening. Also, as I pointed out earlier in the thread, Schertz has lived and worked all over—southeast, south, Midwest. He was born in Brooklyn, but family moved to Florida when he was still young.Schertz being an east coast guy I think Providence is a real possibility. Plus it’s Catholic like SLU.
- Potential Replacements:Initial reports mention Josh Schertz (Saint Louis) and Jerrod Calhoun (Utah State) as potential targets for the vacancy.
