I like hearing that we officially reached out to Schertz. The AD has to kick those tires from a due diligence standpoint even if BH is the lean. That also silences those who say Syracuse doesn't "try" or actually look outside the family. Also to get BH or Schertz it will need to be a 4 or 5 year and probably a competitive per annum. So if Syracuse reals one of those two in we can stop the Syracuse is cheap talk as well.

We have a head coach.

We haven't officially reached out to anyone.

Officially unofficial reached out?

I just had the thought, Eric Devendorf on BH staff? I just feel like out of all the alums, if an assistant made sense it’s Devo. Think about it, he would’ve thrived in Hodgson system with the way he played. I feel like the two personalities could mesh well. I think it could be a good move for Hodgson to get an alum involved. Devo is a great communicator. Maybe he can develop as a coach working with a guy like Hodgson. Though, do I even want that lol. I like Devo in the media!
I posted this probably about 30 pages ago in this thread.

Schertz being an east coast guy I think Providence is a real possibility. Plus it’s Catholic like SLU.

  • Potential Replacements:Initial reports mention Josh Schertz (Saint Louis) and Jerrod Calhoun (Utah State) as potential targets for the vacancy.

Schertz isn’t leaving Saint Louis for Providence. That’s not happening. Also, as I pointed out earlier in the thread, Schertz has lived and worked all over—southeast, south, Midwest. He was born in Brooklyn, but family moved to Florida when he was still young.

In the coaching carousel thread, there was a discussion about BC’s fall after the firing of Al Skinner and Jagodzinski, their basketball and football coaches and their AD Gene Difillipo. SU has always had a family type atmosphere with former players probably because of the continuity within the basketball program. The football program under Fran has made an excellent effort to reengage SU’s football alumni players. Hoping we don’t forget our history, our alumni players who helped create the high expectations and fan devotion for the program if under new “outside” coaching. Below is an interesting article I found regarding the lack of alumni player relations and dissatisfaction that occurred with alumni after Al Skinner’s firing. They Were Part of BC’s Best Men’s Basketball Teams. Now, the Players Worry the Program Forgot About Them.

ACC tourney locks:

Duke: 3rd year coach
UNC: 4th year coach
Virgina: 1st year coach
Louisville: 2nd year coach (but made it his first year)
NC State: 1st year coach

Should be in:

Clemson: Brad is old af
Miami: 1st year head coach

Don't listen to anyone who will say tournament next year, or at the VERY least year 2, is unreasonable. No matter who the coach is the expectation is clear and more than reasonable

If it is Hopkins, I expect a tournament next year...

If it is a out of the family hire:

1st year - I expect to see systems of basketball implemented on both sides of the court. I expect to see the effort improve overall, and change the culture.

That is it they get one year in the NIL era.

2nd year - I am back to my min expectations to be a tournament team every single year. No bubble and we almost made. I expect a tournament every single year.

A new coach gets one year to install systems and change culture.

No excuses in my book, rosters turnover every year so “installing the system” will be an ongoing reality not a one shot
