Coach Search Options after Autry

None of the Syracuse guys have a clue how to coach modern offensive basketball.

Exactly, and one failed with no turnaround while the other leaned on a star player and defense just like Hop did before lack of offense was exposed and things crashed.

Would align with some of the last hires - Fran, Blair and would make more sense as to why after all the momentum and how long BH was supposedly in the works for it to blow up overnight.
It almost seems like what gets said when people get nervous about tampering.

Not to defend anyone because I have no stake in this game as anyone but a fan. But what if for the last year they were getting one NIL number from a candidate and all of the sudden the candidate gets hot and his name gets into the press as the next thing since sliced bread and he increases his NIL number by 50%? If the university doesn't believe it can consistently deliver the NIL each year that the candidate is going to need then why hire him? The dude will just quit with the first better offer he gets.

My hunch is we are already down this path with mr dart... except he was so grateful for the chance he probably said I'll bring the money. But now he will leave with the first better offer he gets where he doesn't have to do as much of the heavy lifting and he will take the team with him.

If they are seeing the same with Hodgson than they are better off not hiring him. I agree it shows a complete lack of ambition, but money is money. We all need to reset our expectations as fans... it seems we are going to be bubble program that makes it into the dance once every 3/4 years moving forward. Basically we will be providence but in a more challenging conference, so we won't make the dance as often.
I agree with you. I'm not sure where Mr. Dart thinks he going to go though. Vey sad.

Listen I don’t know what Seton Hall does for NIL but after this gut punch I can say with confidence Syracuse does mot have the appetite to spend some great sum of money on Hoops either. And it’s a much deeper conference.
Exactly what money is Syracuse unwilling to spend? If Hodgson turned Syracuse down and not the other way around do you think it was due to the salary offered? If he was “the guy” would Syracuse let him walk over a discrepancy in pay that is essentially a rounding era in a budget the size of theirs? Syracuse University spends the maximum allowed for revenue sharing and by all accounts are at or above the percentage allocated to men’s basketball by programs with a P4 football team. Logically the only place SU could fall short is in NIL payments and the University can beat the drum for more support from the community but can’t directly impact the dollar amount available.

Can’t wait to see all these “I’m done” posters posting here still next year lol.
I didn't watch more than a few minutes this season. I enjoy the board. If it wasn't for this community I would have a much more tenuous connection to SU basketball. And now that SU appears to be showing it doesn't care about winning or its fans, I'm not sure why I should care about SU.

IF that is true that BH was turned down by SU and he was the #1 target then that is a MUCH different situation than the doom and gloom scenarios being spewed here. My guess is that we have new tastier fish in the pond like the Iowa St coach. Someone that all the major donors could get behind. Meaning SU put together a package that he couldn’t refuse. Deal is basically done and now we have to wait a couple weeks for it to be official, but things will start to leak out unofficially. With his team in the tournament though both sides will want to keep a tight lid as much as possible.

Or if not ISU then someone else out of left field that was interested thanks to the new regime that is clearly a better candidate than BH. If our top pick was turned away that can only be good news that we found someone better. It’s the only thing that makes sense. Sometimes the simple answers are right in front of us.

If SU was really struggling and panhandling for NIL and BH was the only big fish in the pond they wouldn’t terminate that line of negotiation until all time and resources were exhausted. That is the key point here. SU has NIL - it was always about finding a way to unify the donors.

The answers are right in front of us and we just have to stop assuming the worst. Granted that can be hard around here. Goddammit what is the matter with you people? Wake up and be men! (or women)
Hopefully you're right. Or it could be something like his salary asking price was so high that it wasn't something we'd even consider.

100% agree. Here's where I'm at...

-The timing makes no sense for BH's camp, nor does the leaking to Goodman of all people with just a "turned down". A narrative was pushed and the BH camp played it perfectly.
-The fanbase watching is universally worried about Hop but also this seems to be alot of fearmongering by a few posters. When an insider posts about a surprise or hold on to your shorts, 20 comments immediately follow saying shoot me now it's Hopkins ha. Likely the insider was only told it will be out of left field or a surprise.
-We have set the 38th parallel. Fran and Lally own football / Hoops likely driven by Melo and some of the "in family" usual donors. Lally does not mess with hoops and sticks with the BH camp in USF and Fran taps Lally for football when he inevitably brings in more 5 star guys.
-We are yet to see who is going to be the face of the hoops rebrand and it's not someone we're all expecting.
-Announcement imminent...

I'll leave this little tidbit and this is fully acknowledging that I was in the BH camp. Will Wade was the top coach in last year's cycle. With all the NIL he wanted and bringing in a top Freshman he could not win a play in game against a 19 win Texas team. Nothing is for sure with these coaches.

heres a thought, some have bandied about here but got lost in the shuffle, coach somewhere saw how Fran came out of the blue assertively offering himself up, same here? Someone unknown to us at this point comes up in the mix?

I just hate the way college sports have changed. I know that’s kinda off topic but I just am so annoyed by all of it right now. All the NIL/money grabbing/donors BS, etc.

The playing field is so out of level and it’s only getting worse. It just sucks.
The playing field is more level. Right now any team can pony up the money for top players. Before NIL you had to have the right conference or right history to do it.

Ok, I won’t get into all of the rumor and speculation surrounding Hodgson because there’s plenty to go around. The most important thing is where do we go next?

I’m going to be pretty clear that the next coach needs to want Syracuse. Hodgson seemed like the right fit. Upstate NY background. Syracuse fan. Top recruiter. Strong fundraiser. But he didn’t really want Syracuse.

The next coach needs to have more than just a successful resume. He needs to have the character to live with high expectations because they’ll be higher than ever before. He needs to be a part of the community and be able, along with his family, to endure harsh winters. It was never going to be easy replacing a legend. Red found that out the hard way.

The list of potential coaches doesn’t appear to include many who fit that criteria. The one getting the most attention now does meet those standards with the exception of experience. Is it worth the risk? Or do you move on and hand it to someone who doesn’t know the culture, isn’t ready for SU expectations, and a foot of snow in his driveway?

Make the wrong call and we’re back in the same place.

I really really hope Blair shocks us with a candidate we never thought we could get. If it was the ISU coach as mentioned that would be a huge pick me up for this fanbase. Really hope we get shocked in the right way.
