Coach Search Options after Autry

Btw Hodgson did not get the job, he DID NOT turn it down. I have this from one of the most legit and reputable sources in the game. Not sure if it’s Gerry or someone else, but this is the agent spinning it that he turned it down.
If this is true, I wonder if it’s because we didn’t want to meet his ask. I can’t imagine we didn’t want him outright.

Then again I never thought Lyke would be an AD candidate, so what the hell do I know? :D

heres a thought, some have bandied about here but got lost in the shuffle, coach somewhere saw how Fran came out of the blue assertively offering himself up, same here? Someone unknown to us at this point comes up in the mix?
Because fran wanted the job and called wildhack. No one outside the su friends and family want this mess.

The $4-5 million salary figures are not happening. If you see $4 million it would be for the assistant coaches and all support staff. It would also INCLUDE the head coach salary.

Indeed. Georgetown is a first class academic institution located in one of America's most vibrant cities. Hoops has always been a nice-to-have for them.

SU without big time college athletics is... not incredibly attractive.
I went to Syracuse for the athletics (and growing up nearby w both of my parents employed by the school). So I basically grew up on that campus and a huge Syracuse sports fan. For me it was undisputed #1 and nothing was #2. The athletics were and are a major, major appeal.

I was a pretty good student in high school and likely could have gone to a better academic institution, but I knew SU was where I was supposed to be. Plus the free tuition (massive perk).

Anyway…. Destroying something that is a big time pull for students is just a bold, bold choice.

Here’s my fear with in house for the normies to get

1- Hop or GMac get the job
2- decent staff is announced
3- a couple guys we want announced will stay
4- decent NIL package leaked out
5- Decent portal class with some exciting additions
6- off season coverage shows promise and intensity and either of those options are well spoken and the non crazies like us are stoked
7- We smoke both exhibitions an everything looks positive
8- We get to Vegas and can’t score and staff is angry and not sure what to do as we get bulldozed again.
9- The juice and excitement is completely gone and there are no good basketball answers that the staff is able to provide
10- JB is much louder on the media telling Cuse nation to let his guy get going and trust the process and spews some spin about the Vegas losses
11- The tailspin begins before we’ve even gotten to conference season and the dome empties out like it did with Red
12- All along the media and other fanbases are laughing at us like we are Rutgers.

Maybe it doesn’t go this way but the normies need to understand this has a much higher likelihood than with BH and definitely higher with Hop. GMac looks like a good hire compared to Hop and if that’s part of the whole mirage to try and sell this, grading on a curve…

Lastly - if it’s GMac then I’ll just say a little prayer that Siena gives Duke the biggest scare of the season or does the impossible and maybe some faith is restored.

People need to stop punishing GMac for Reds sins.

I really really hope Blair shocks us with a candidate we never thought we could get. If it was the ISU coach as mentioned that would be a huge pick me up for this fanbase. Really hope we get shocked in the right way.

Holding out a slight hope that if Hodg snubbed us for Tennessee, we cross him off the list and on to next legit candidate.

We were supposed to be doing a national search after all, so it shouldn't be "Hodg out... ok family re-tread". We should have a legit list of targets we are working.

If not, that would indicate a ridculous level of unprofessionalism, especially with all the lip service that has been given about this "process".

Same for me. Only applied to 1 school since my mother worked for Utica college which at the time was affiliated with Syracuse.

If they hire Hop, there is nothing they can say to get that faith back. Gerry will make the Syracuse.com mouth breathers happy but that’s about it

How do either fit into what Wildhack said; intend to hire a proven winner, who can recruit at the highest level, develop players and compete for championships.

It's really hard to spin that either Syracuse guy fits that criteria.

We need a clean break from the JB tree. I'll be extremely disappointed if we don't.

Yup. I love my alma mater dearly, and I think people put wayyy too much stock in the US News rankings as some kind of proof that the school's academics have "declined".

However, SU has two massive draws, IMHO: (1) specific, highly-regarded schools (e.g. Newhouse), and (2) being one of just 2 big time sports schools in the northeast (along with Penn State).

A lot of northeast kids want that big time college experience, and more and more are going south and west to get it. If SU fumbles away the rev share/NIL era, and it's football and men's hoops teams are irrelevant, its going to be extremely harmful.

Paying SU's tuition to get a degree that's not from one of the acclaimed schools is lunacy, unless it's part of a broader experience.

Its possible that he came off as arrogant and unprepared in an interview, or that he thought that he was guaranteed the job.

Same, Clarkson because of engineering. And the athletics up in Potsdam, New York just don’t compare.

In hindsight I do wish I applied to some top tier academic schools just to see. Certainly had the grades.

But again… watching high level sports is a great thing when they aren’t the opposite.

Agreed they won’t fit into that criteria at all, but do we know if anyone that does is actually interested in the job?

According to my limited research, there has NEVER been a MAAC coach that has been hired directly to a Power conference school from the MAAC. The jump would be massive if its Gmac...
Shaheen Holloway, if you consider the BE a power conference, which is debatable these days
