Coach Search Options after Autry

Lets be real, has Syracuse really ever been a "great" job?

We got lucky and hired a HOF coach who never wanted to leave which was amazing.

But generally speaking, not many folks want to uproot their lives, to go work a mid sized private university in upstate NY where it snows a lot.
But people are dying to go to Tuscaloosa, Gainesville or Knoxville?

No, but when people drop names like Gerry, Hopkins, and Jason Hart. Seems pretty clear it’s only about the SU connection. It’s ridiculous.

The connection should be a consideration, just not the end-all-be-all. On the flip side, it would be equally foolhardy to say it can’t be a person with an SU connection, right?

If JB retired after 2011 and we conducted a national search, this would have been one of the biggest openings ever. I was going to say 2012, but there might have been concern about Fab and future sanctions.

Well, if the job had come open in 2015 or so we probably would have gotten a lot more interest, since at that time we were still a consistent NCAA team, a frequent top 25 team, and still capable of drawing 30,000 fans. But I got a chuckle over the past three years at how many posters assured us that, if we only ran a national search, we could have our pick of a number of top coaches. Those days, if the in fact did exist, are now long gone. We have to accept the fact that we’re no longer a top tier program. (Though I sure hope we haven’t dropped so far as to make Hop or GMac acceptable options.)

Why does it have to be a former player/coach/alum?

IT IS NOT A REQUIREMENT.

It’s so damn weak.

Because they are SO DAMN CHEAP.
That's the reason.

Did you know that teaching a freshman 3 credit course that meets 3 times a week for a semester only pays $3,500 to an Adjunct Professor?
That's 45 hours of class time, plus preparing lectures, grading papers, administrative work, and office hours for students.

If you figure all of that time adds up to 150 hours a semester, that means they are paying an Adjunct Professor $23.33/hour.

This is why their academic ranking keeps dropping. They can't afford many good professors, because they have too many administrators on big bucks. So, they fill out their ranks with very poorly paid people to teach the masses of undergrads.

It shouldn't eliminate hop or gmac but with what has gone on the past 10 years it should be noted. Obviously hart gets a pass. Don't know enough about his resume tbh.

Yes. TikTok videos are filling streams of nothern kids constantly. Applications to SEC schools were at an all time high, foreign students not coming may change that. I have a friend from CNY who's daughter went to Alabama. My son is visiting Elon, Va Tech and Maryland next week. These kids want warm weather and sunshine.

We are so stupid. Luke Murray is the guy you hire if you go the assistant coach route, not Kimani Young. He’s the offensive mastermind, the one who convinced Hurley and Young to run a modern offense using analytics and to focus their recruiting around getting players who can play in the system. I also heard that Young is a volatile hothead like Hurley.

We always want the cheapest possible guy.
They assume the fans will always be there.
They seem to be unaware that our attendance has cratered.
It will eventually start showing up in the financial accounts that they pay attention to.

right, not a shot here, just pointing out fact that inevitably folks going down this path have not lived far and wide across this country.

I’d take Luke in a heartbeat

When we used to lead the nation in attendance every year, and knocked off big programs routinely, this used to be a Top 5 job in the nation. That was about 15-20 years ago.
