Surprised not to be hearing more on Hop here (at least the 3 consecutive pages i read a couple times a day). I think he's electric. We know he can coach, can recruit. He brings the passion and energy, bleeds orange. Liked by kids and adults. Hope if and when he's chosen, he gets full support.

He can’t coach. Well, to be fair, he can’t coach well. And he, himself, proved it.

Think of the impact Juli Boeheim had on the community, and in some ways still does.

I am sure BH’s girl is great but is she ready to be a community leader? As an aside, Adrian and his wife seemed to not even try and be community leaders. I suspect SU would like to bring in someone who has a wife and who is willing to be visible in the community.

At least somewhat like JAB and Juli were.

Why does this matter? I couldn’t pick out any of our former football coaches wives that we’ve had in the past 20 years.

If this is a requirement we aren’t really serious about winning.

No because their basketball brand is so strong and it’s a big state school.

The state school piece is huge. Trends are not good for overpriced private institutions. If SU isn't careful NIL and athletics is going to be the least of their concerns.

No it's is not early. Unfortunately this needs to be a pedal to the metal thing. Although I guess we can't interview a coach that is still coaching. But they could fly to where Luke is playing and interview him possibly. They need to be right at the interview stage as soon as each potential coach is finished. We should have this hire in place by the end of next week at the latest.

I think (no confirmation) that SU might be concerned over the girlfriend’s age, that she was apparently a student when they started dating and that they (again apparently) have a kid and aren’t married.

Colleges these days are all about appearances and avoiding scandals.

I believe he was what we were looking for and we are what he was looking for. The only reason it didn’t happen was that he failed the vetting process. It is the only thing I can think they would explain this sequence of events.

I actually respectfully disagree with you. Though I'd love to know who the next guy will be, if the best guy takes waiting a couple of weeks, so be it. Just get the best guy out there before the portal opens, which is the day after the Championship game.

To be fair to Tony and GMU, they were hit by the injury bug at the start of Feb and they just fell off a cliff. I think it would be a better hire than Gerry and Hop but marginally so.

Would also notably prefer a few other A10 coaches before Skinn, but it would be better than Hopkins and probably better than GMac.

Ok folks here you go and this is confirmed information from probably the closest person to the program on the donor side -

They aren’t hiring Hop. Even with all the money in the world and support he’s getting, the university knows they can get over the Washington record so that’s out.

However, they are trying to get the Same group of donors that were backing hop to back Gmac. They want Blackwell as well as the 1-2 punch. And they think that is their best way to raise money and basically anyone outside of the family has no shot to raise any sort of money because they don’t know anyone in the community

They are interviewing Hurley this week and a few other “outsiders” that even the university wouldn’t share with this donor

The financials are rough. Really rough. They are asking for sums of money that are literally astronomical and hiring a coach is going to be very hard because of how bad it truly is.

All the players on the team have the intention to come back. Mainly bc they have ZERO offers from other schools. Nate George has an offer from Kentucky and that’s it. Obviously it will be up to the new coach on what to do with the roster.
