Coach Search Options after Autry

Correct - the athletic office believes Gmac is the best option for raising money and putting butts in seats to generate revenue. They are terrified to bring in someone else in fear that a new coach that no one knows will basically have 3000 people show up to the first 10 games

It may be shortsighted but if they are in as much trouble financially as being described, I get it. I just hope any possible contract with GMac has performance incentives and a negligible buyout.
theres no saving the program if the financials are that bad because(this is jUST IMHO and could change, and maybe absolute peak it can for a short time )Syracuse football will never be able to keep up and compete with the talent and financials of big time, p4 football year over year. As an outsider to Syracuse football who’s heavily involved with a school that is a big time football school, I just have a hard time believing/seeing it. I pray I’m wrong because as we all know, football is the power and money.

So to go in another direction, I am no fan of Gerry getting the job. But he does bring more to the table than Autry did.
1. He is more enaging and likeable, which helps to raise funds.
2. He understands the players. He is more of a players coach.
3. He has a certain "we can win this thing" quality and makes his players believe it.
4. He was more loved at SU, one of the most loved players ever. Because of that is why more seats will be filled even though many on here say they won't come. They will in the end.
5. If it doesn't work at first, he will make adjustments.
6. if he is wrong, he will own it.
Good post. I'm not sure if anyone really does #6 though. Even Fran "I say what I mean" Brown doesn't really do that.

Fair points.

That's why it's bizarre when people here give their emotional "I'm out" reactions to decisions made with which they don't agree. Then seconds later they decry wealthy donors doing the same thing. (Spoiler alert: wealthy people aren't smarter just because they have more money.)
Good call. Last night and all morning people said I’ll jump off a bridge if it’s Hopkins.

Now someone says no Hop but maybe Gmac.
*even though unnamed candidates are being interviewed this week.

Same posters are like oh my god I’ll jump off another bridge if it’s Gmac.

Same thing with the rich donors.

Family camp—> we need hop or we’re done —> Gmac wins MAAC—>now we need Gerry or we’re done again!

BH camp—>we need him there isn’t another successful midmajor coach in the league from western NY—>deal isn’t made—>no coaches will ever be as good as what we missed out on with BH and program is dead.

Folefac would never get a shot off inside against the ACC. He got half his shots blocked at the rim in the MAAC.
He had a 52% shooting percentage so he must have made every single shot that was not blocked.

And he is the best defender on the team. They won the MAAC tournament final not in small part to Folefac defending the MAAC player of the year and holding him to 28% shooting.

that would be so stupid if that was the reason-- 31 and 21 isn't a crime or even necessarily problematic.
Yes 10 year difference. The radioshow chatter described it as an inappropriate relationship with a member of the women's bball team. I can't confirm if she actually played at Bama, I see she played at Jacksonville St. I questioned him, he said he would have been fired if he wasnt able to land at Ark St. Apparently USF didnt have issue with it either. Regardless it looks mutual as they are now engaged and it is in the past. Shame on SU if this the reason. He also mentioned BH mocked SU on twitter once.

Would you say SU was caught off-guard with the monetary demands coaches are making? Did they not realize how much would be required?
I’m still floored that Syracuse basketball has such conditional NIL support. This is what? Year 3 of this new era. No excuses.

These donors won’t even consider an outside hire because they don’t know them? What planet are we living on?

If our next coach isn't Batman...

I'm out!

Keep it here.
