I’ve never met the guy. Never met any of the big donors. As an outsider, I find it funny that one hand we hear about how awful SU finances are (depending on the poster) and SU has to beg for money and new boosters or they can’t compete AND on the other, there’s a handful of posters who go the extra step in slagging him any chance they get.

You aren't wrong. But what I think those people are upset about is1. they put their name on everything and push their influence around like a bully and they put their name over Melo's. Also, and I don't know this for a fact but they don't give to NIL. Even football. They give money to things they can put their name on. At least that is what I was told. But we can't afford to be mean to boosters. And that includes all boosters if Adam W is willing to give.

Outside of the BH stuff and rumors on here (which translate into rumors on X), there’s really been no leaks of actual candidates. That’s also because several are still coaching per BB this morning. So it’s been a quiet process and they seem to be keeping it close to the vest.

Hodgson is in the rear view mirror. We can stop talking about him.

We learned today we have 2 really good candidates. Gerry and Phil Jr.

Each will have to be evaluated and negotiated with. We don't know how this will play out. Plus there are still some others. But we should feel good after what we have seen today.

I was not necessarily on the Gerry train, but now am fine if he is the coach. He showed some real stuff today.

Obviously Phil won't be able to really interview yet. But I am sure his agent was already in discussions with us.

The better news for me is that March Madness has been fun for me. I was actually dreading it. But watching some of our potential coaches, and of course I would always root for Gerry or any SU alum. So it has been a good day.

Impressed with the heart Siena played with today but come on. The head coach of Howard has them down 4 to Michigan, should we hire him?

These teams are going to have the adrenaline going, its the biggest game of their lives, and the one seeds aren't going to come out like they're playing another one seed in the national championship game.

And I really don't care what Jim Boeheim, Joe Girard, or Cole Swider have to say.

With 4.5 guys playing and best one hopping on one leg. C mon. Offense is crisp and defense is tough. If he has players, we can win and win big. If we pull wright out of retirement I get ya but it’s not happening

I have no doubt that on top of all the factions behind the scenes and Gmacs performance with Siena he ends up with the job.

I don’t love the hire, but it is what it is.

I do agree with the poster above though, taking a snapshot of one game in the tournament or two games in the tournament is a recipe for disaster. Sometimes it can be so volatile. At the end of the day these are kids, some of which are playing the biggest games of their lives. Some show up and perform, and others don’t.

With that said, there were people ragging on Martelli about 30 mins ago and he ends up winning the game.

That’s such today’s society. Someone isn’t worthy because of one game or one snapshot of a season.

How would Carmelo not support Gmac who honestly won the NCAA game. He is a grinder and his guys are tough and gritty just like he was. Now do that with guys who are of high calibur and u have a winner.

Because Gerry and Billy Edelin both played PG. Melo and Billy both went to Oak Hill and played on a team that beat LeBron's HS team from Akron.

Billy was more of a pure point. Gerry was really a combo guard, and to me, anyway, better off the the ball as the 3 point shooting 2G.

Gerry started the season at PG, because Billy had to still serve an 11 game suspension. During that time, Gerry felt like he won the job.

Melo wanted Billy to get a real chance. Selfishness resulted on the floor for a few games.

It got bad enough that Boeheim had to have a "clear the air" meeting among all three of them.

Eventually, they found a rotation that worked for everybody, including Josh Pace and Kueth Duany. We had a pretty deep team in 2003, used more guys than he did in some other seasons.

The biggest positive I took out of today aside from the excellent introductory press conference, was Blair acknowledging and dismissing the rumors around our basketball program as innacurate.

I feel like he will end up doing the right thing by us with this hire.

We should be happy in the next week or 2.
