Coach Search Options after Autry

Welcome to page 700!

That is why I have a hard time imagining something this good would happen to us. Why I came with it. I was so surprised. Something like this happens to you when you are on a roll. We haven't had something good happen for us in years. I mean, Freeman got hurt at the worst possible time for us.
Or did he.. my post-mortem of the Autry era is great guy, great person, great player. But he needs to go to a place like Siena to refine his coaching skills. He lost his team multiple years in a row, his players don’t play hard, good players get worse under him, his players don’t execute his plan, etc….

Donnie getting hurt prevented any false dawns and let us see what kind of coach we really had,

We're now 16 minutes without a post. I know it's 4:39 am EDT, but doesn't anybody have to get up to pee at night?
No not a problem into my mid 60’s thanks to this (and a great wife……ahem…):

Genuine question: Is there anyone here that disagrees that we are in a much better place than we thought we were in a few days ago? If so, what is your reasoning?
I can't imagine people will say that. The folks floating Hopkins created a downward spiral, then BH and Goodman and the echo chamber they created. Then alot of other random candidates like Shaheen and Skinn were not well received.

We are in good shape now.

And here we are.

A few years is two years.
No, year two means it would only take one year. Let me clarify. I think Scherz would have us in contention for an NCAA tournament appearance in year 1, although we wouldn't be optimized. Year two, I am confident we would be a top Ford or five team in the ACC.

That's not a long runway to success, it's a quick turnaround. Because he's that good of a coach.

But will he stay past year 3 when a loaded sec team or blue blood comes calling? At 50 maybe? But I really want to know if he agreed to the extension and if so why is he now willing to leave.

If they come calling, that means we are winning at a high level. Collect the buyout and hire the next best coach, and if that is Gerry at that time great he would be coming into a program on the upswing not down swing which would be a better situation for Gerry as well.

Even if GMAC was the guy, I imagine the negotiations take time as far as salary for himself and staff and amount of NIL.
And who is to say they might be dragging it out a bit to see just how much more NIL they could get if GMAC is the coach.
The average casual fan wants GMAC. He is remembered as a winner and we are sick of being losers and the joke of the ACC for the last 5 years or so.
Anyone who watched that Duke game had to be impressed. And more people nationwide probably watch part of the first two days of the NCAAT than practically any other time of the year.
Given GMACs history as a player and winner, how he turned Siena around as a coach from 4 wins to 23 wins in just 2 years, took Siena to their first NCAAT since 2010 and then led the number one team in the country up till the last 4 minutes on CBS, I can see why many who have not even considered donating to NIL would be opening up their wallets.
The SU marketing plan for the basketball team would pretty much write itself.

Hope is a powerful thing that we have not had for so many years.
GMAC gives the casual fan hope and gives many of the die hard fans hope.
Yes, if you go just by metrics, he is not the best candidate out there.
But heart, belief in yourself and your team and proving you believe you can always win, mean a lot too.
GMAC is the embodiment of the self fulfilling prophecy. He believes that he can win and often he does even in the most difficult of circumstances. BE tournament as a senior and the Duke game show that in spades.
Great great post and amen brother. You and I have been on this from the jump day one. Powers that be… MAKE. IT. HAPPEN. But the reality is it’s gonna be Schertz. You heard it here first. And it’s a great hire, can totally get behind this/him. God bless ya Jerry, keep on keeping on.

Watching four games in Tampa yesterday, it is amazing the offensive sets that Cuse has been missing for the longest time. Pick and rolls, crisp passing to find the open man, guys cutting and then receiving properly thrown passes to attack the paint downhill, having centers that actually get the ball thrown to them in the paint, many ten to 12 footers when the open spot is found, guys crashing the boards for offensive rebounds and then sprinting down court on defense, guys not standing around not contributing.

ISO offense is so stale. When an offense is run properly it's like a ballet. Maestro is the proper term for the guy who's in charge.
There has been good movement but a lot of winning teams still run a lot of iso.

I’ll support whoever is chosen for HC, but I find it ironic that so much weight is placed on keeping it “in the family” with GMAC, when today’s landscape finds players changing teams more so than not. The idea of having a legendary player->HC seems outdated. I get NIL importance, etc., but more than ever, you need a solid coach that develops players and has a good system.
