Here's the thing. Donnie has an immense amount of talent. But he's always been perimeter oriented, despite being close to 6'10. He also hasn't been coached collegiately to play more inside out, to be tougher defensively, and to put more effort into rebound ing.

On other teams, the coach might tie his playing time towards him, putting forth an appropriate level of effort in those areas. At Syracuse, red didn't do that. No idea whether GMAC would, but I think that's what Donnie needs to actualize his potential. And if he's not going to get that here, then he should leave.

You still have to get the top players to come play for you and for Syracuse. Just because we have money doesn’t mean the elite of elite talent will start coming back. Lots of selling is going to need to happen. I think we can still put together a solid roster of the 2nd and 3rd teir players just have to be smart on roster construction. If GMac can start winning and the money stays that can change in a year or 2

This is the reality every year now in college basketball for teams that don't consistently attract one and done NBA talent. And even if you seem to have assembled good pieces on paper entering the season, it's impossible to predict how long it will take for them to gel, or even if they will gel. It's a crapshoot.

Taking another shot at Schertz was just for public perception. It was never going to happen because people on the hill think NIL equals winning and nobody was going to convince the GMac only money it switch to support anyone else. Like everyone said it was never Schertz with 12 million versus GMac with 12 million. If Schertz got 12 million NIL he would probably be the coach. But the in the family money was never moving so it was a pointless exercise.

No guarantees.

We don't need another Kadary situation... If Carmelo doesn't like that and wants to take his son and ball to USC or wherever, so be it. His son is not him and should not be getting special treatment.
