Recruiting doesn’t matter. Talent identification, roster construction and NIL budget management are all that matters.

This was about “closing” when it comes to Gerry and that’s a money game now almost purely.

He can't NOT meddle for 2 ego-driven reasons:

1. It's still HIS program and he's entitled to.

2. He's the smartest person in any room and knows what's best for the program.

Now you can certainly disagree with those statements ( I know I do)...

But for # 1, it doesn't matter if you disagree or not, because he's had 50 years of control and just proved again he still has that control... and he's obviously not at all interested in ceding that control where large program decisions are concerned.

For # 2, doesn't matter if you agree either (you are stupid if you don't agree, BTW)... And see # 1.

Was JB's job to close the deal, and he was too busy/lazy to go on visits like he did in the 80's and 90's. JB also wanted to hold off on many recruits and wait to see if some higher ranked recruit was going to accept the scholly. In the end, we'd lose both recruits, numerous times.

GMAC should have a massive budget for staff and get one really good elite assistant if they repurpose some of what they would’ve probably had been willing to pay Schertz. They appeared to have been really close to landing him.

Unless it’s a 5 star guy they are not going to matter. 18 of the 20 5 stars are committed anyway to the usual blue bloods. No one on our list of candidates anyway was getting close to that level of talent at least for next year anyway.

Find something to complain about that matters more. There’s plenty of other things.

I’d argue the fact that Siena couldn’t close that out is more of a reflection on GMac, TBH. His team got handed a win on a silver platter and they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
