Coach Search Options after Autry

I would not have picked Gerry over some of the other options, but mannnn am I pumped for him. Guy bleeds orange through and through and deserved the job post boeheim. I really hope he gets off to a strong start because he’s gonna be right in the pressure cooker from day 1.

I’d argue the fact that Siena couldn’t close that out is more of a reflection on GMac, TBH.

lol come on. Outside not using the one sub he could have trusted for a few minutes not much more they could have done. Some of these takes are off the reservation. There are many ways to dislike the hire but trying to go this route …

So Duke scripted GMacs gameplan for him ? Scheyer is just that nice of a guy?
Duke overlooked their opponent. It happens. And then they woke up in the second half and realized who they were.

Again, it’s more of an indictment that a GMac coached-team couldn’t seal the deal up 11 at the half.

Again.. lol

I guess it’s a bit relative. Some people believe in participation trophies and others only put stock in winning.
Makes no sense when you are comparing resources. Going against the 1 overall seed as a 16 38 pt dogs and led 75% of the game with 6 eligible players. Thats a heck of a coaching job. Meanwhile Kentucky won their first game with a 22 million dollar roster, so should we go after mark pope??

Great rebuttal. I’ve posted here longer than you, champ.

You aren’t making a valid point at all. It’s about as well thought out as Reds substitution patterns. You make it sound like Gerry was coaching a 8-9 seed vs a 16 with basically 5.1 guys. He had a solid gameplan and they out executed Duke on both ends then just ran out of gas. They also had their best player get banged up.

It’s an absurd and lazy comment to say not holding the lead says more than taking a 28 pt favorite all the way to the wire. All it screams is hating the hire and not being one ounce objective.

Also now your going with posting history- well how about I throw my hat in the ring having been around for every single version of this board.. that good enough??

Good. Then my mission is met. I do hate the hire. I hate that Boeheim apparently threw a temper tantrum at the idea that we might hire a qualified coach that was outside the “SU family”.

I most of all hate the fact that this program is on life support, has been for almost a decade now, and we respond to that by giving the reins to a fan favorite who hasn’t shown that he’s capable of coaching with any degree of success in a P5 conference.

How’s that for being objective?

Sometimes it’s just good to say it instead of picking a fight with every opinion you don’t like as though it’s warranted. This will be a sink or swim moment and I don’t think anyone is unaware of that reality whether they are ok with it or not. Collegiate athletics are coming up on a critical moment of existing in current form or some alternate form but never to be what they once were.

You are going to see more big name programs fail or fall off the map. We will learn soon enough if this gamble was a good one for SU. If things don’t go well for football it won’t matter anyways. No need to come in here swinging like an angry clown as you call out others who didn’t do a damn thing but drop an opinion you don’t like.

I’m defensive. I was banging the “JB needs to retire” drum as far back as 2017 and I got dragged through the mud for it. Now probably north of 90% of the board would agree he held on too long.

The board is very visceral at times and if you disagree with the way things are going you’re seen as a heretic.
