Coach Search Options after Autry

Gmac is the giant shiny red EASY button for the next hire to placate a very vocal minority of people from the BoT on down. And I think that button is going to be really hard to resist pushing.

So until the next coach starts the season, I won’t believe that Gerry is definitively out of the HC search.
So you’re basically doubting SU leadership will make the correct decision. Based on their track record that’s a completely fair assumption.

If Hodgson fails, it wasn't the right move. If Gerry fails, we're the laughing stock of college basketball, still stuck in Boeheim's shadow.
This is why ultimately I don’t think Hop or GMAC get hired. Administrators across the board want to limit risk and potential fallout tied to their decision. GMAC/HOP failing looks like a bigger fail than an outsider failing: We’ll see if I’m wrong

Have we considered handing the reigns to Allen Griffen? His works with our guards this year has been stellar.

Now up 30. They are raining 3’s. Can Schertz win without College Jokic?!
They had a 25 PT swing from 2 min mark in the first to about the 10 mark in the second. Explosive.

No he really isnt, its time to go outside the program. Push the blue button.

Yeah, this.

I don't doubt the rumors; it'd be hard not to consider GMac. But it's kind of like when people say they're thinking about buying some classic car or sports car or whatever and ultimately end up buying the SUV or truck they were always going to.

When push comes to shove GMac is a risk, I just don't see people collectively willing to bet on it after the failed Autry experiment. Brains should and will winout over hearts here.

Come on Dash... In one year GMAC is getting a blue blood or close job? That is highly highly improbable. In a couple years he may be an option for a low to midpack P4 job. And that night be a stretch.

I know you are down on Cuse at the moment but the program is still attractive, if a step below where it would have been a decade ago. The idea of Gerry getting a top tier job in the very near future (unless SU goes the alumni route) is quite implausible, IMO.
I can see him in the running for BC. Irish Catholic boy well known to their fan base. Louis Orr did something similar from Siena

More interesting nuance to the coaching perspectives of a leading candidate

Hodgson is young by HC standards, even younger than Gerry. Thus his attitude and mindset is going to evolve as he learns. This sounds like a coach continuing to grow and learn to me. I’m willing to bet a number of extremely successful coaches could have rubbed people the wrong way at the age Hodgson is. It’s how you learn and progress as much as anything.

I think people are giving Gerry a little too much credit at Siena. Not saying that it’s not impressive what he is doing. But 2 things immediately to consider:

1- Siena is the best job in that conference. He has some of the best resources, fanbase, and facilities in the conference.

2- Couple coaches have had great success at Siena and faltered when they left for bigger jobs. At the end of the day, it’s MAAC basketball.

Why I like what Hodgson has done at 2 stops now at two entirely different levels of basketball.
