I always thought it was worth a shot. But he turned down Indiana this offseason and that was his dream job. I know this as a fact. He isn’t coming back to coach Syracuse after turning down his dream job a couple months ago.

Nate oats would cost some money. But I think he would leave Alabama for Syracuse.

Why would you think that? He's gonna make over 6 million dollars next year - will be at 7.5 mil by 2030 and is in the SEC.

Level playing field on a head coaching compensation level. Nate Oats would ask himself where he would feel he’d have a better chance winning a national championship? Remember when Donnie Freeman and Sadiq White picked Syracuse over Alabama. If he feels he can have an easier time getting the players to get him a national championship at Syracuse, yeah I think he would leave Alabama for Syracuse. We’ve consistently have played to the floor of our talent level for years now and it’s starting to continue yet again this season. The last time I felt the team truly played above the floor of its talent level was the 2017-2018 team which was a young team. I hope I feel different come March.

You may be right, we will see come March, but at least right now I don’t think they have enough to get a national championship. Dude was not content even being in the elite 8 last year.

Bright side is that this program will finally open things up after Autry. Was clear this needed to be done after JAB’s last few years so it’s on JW for not seeing that. He shouldn’t be making this hire but likely will be and it’s tough to feel confident about it. This should be a very long search with a lot of different people willing to help lure a big name. Whomever the name is, focus on it being a great COACH rather than recruiter. It matters a ton in college basketball.

Are people joking on this topic ? I’m sorry please tell me if this stuff is sarcasm. Billy Donovan?? Nate Oats?? The time to get Oats was when he was 3 hours down the thruway. Instead they let Jimmy coach 5 more pretty dreadful years. By the way. Danny Hurley was at Rhode Island then too.

If Boeheim had left the year after they won the Natty they would’ve hired Hopkins. Because no other “big name “ coach would’ve come here. SU fans have always overvalued coaching here. There ain’t no big names eying this school for any sport.

If you want to know the biggest name Coach they’ve ever hired it would be Greg Robinson!!

That’s right GRob. Everyone else has pretty much been a no name assistant or a no name from another school. Some of them have worked out. Schartzwalder, Jimmy B. MacPherson, Desko, Pasqualoni. But they never made a splash with a name hire.

That’s how it’s always been. Unless some big donors are going to pony up you can be assured the next coach is going to be somebody the majority of us ain’t that familiar with.

Unless of course they keep retreading Boeheimers and go after GMac. Which shouldn’t or wouldn’t surprise anyone.

The new coach will boil down to how much the university wants to spend. We have a big venue that when successful will put up to 30k in the stands. We will pay for nil put need a little more. It is a more desirable job than a lot of places but the pay has to be there. They got off on the cheap for years with JB.
Also JB can have no input on the next hire. A national search. BOT needs to make sure they are willing to pay for success.

Simply Syracuse holds value they aren’t getting Nate oats or Billy Donovan but they are going to get another P4 coach. Your delusional if you think big names don’t eye Syracuse
