Coach Search Options after Autry

Lally’s being so close with Hodgson is definitely interesting. They actually are season ticket holders for USF basketball. He will definitely get an interview. Wonder if the story of the comment made after the USF/GW game was actually true.
Not a fan of that comment if that account said was true. But yeah Hodgson should probably be the second call if his former boss turns us down.

Hodgson being our next coach would be the most uninspiring hire ever. Because he is from NY and coached Arkansas State to the NIT, and has a middle of the pack American team now. 🤢
His USF team is currently 6-4 with a defense giving up 80ppg. Seems like there’s better options out there. But there’s a long way from now until Red’s departure and a new coach being hired.

Lol I had University alum, JB loyalists and other board contributors attacking me like unhinged weird lunatics for suggesting Oats should be the next Coach back in like 2018. Hope you all still feel as smart and great about yourselves now.

Tony Skinn will be the hottest coaching candidate this offseason, especially if he makes the NCAAT. Has George Mason at 10-1 with their only loss to VaTech by 9 points. Currently 55 in NET and 68 in KenPom. 20+ win seasons in his first two years at GMU.

He should be at the top of our list.

Of the names mentioned I think Mack is probably the best option but I really like Skinn and we will interview Hodgson for sure so of the names listed that would be my realistic top 3.
I’m ready to dance with devil. Everyone else does

And the fact they have spent millions upon millions on real estate and housing. Big Kent play there that not many were not thrilled about. They basically own the entire university east side now (ostrom, Lysander, comstock) and they also are buying local businesses as well that no one knows about. They do not care about finding a new basketball coach and committing $10m+
Other folks can chime in, but I know of pretty extreme cost cutting measures that more than 1 college are making.

What about speedy claxton? The guy spent like 10 years under popovich.
Should be on the list. I mentioned him back in 2023 when it was evident JB would be retiring. Great coach that checks a lot of boxes. I’m surprised Nova went with Neptune over him when Wright retired, and that didn’t work out well for Nova.

Speedy had a couple of down years the past two seasons but looks like he’s back to his previous level with this Hofstra team. If he wins the CAA and makes the NCAA he’ll get a lot of looks for different east coast coaching openings. I would think Hofstra is limited in their NIL resources so you’d think he would be looking for a better gig despite being a Hofstra alum.

Another vote for Shaheen Holloway. Not sure he'd leave his alma mater, but he has Seton Hall at 10-1 with the only loss being a two-point decision to USC (he also beat NC State in Maui). He also has the past runs with Saint Peter's to sell to the fan base. More of a name people have heard of, if that matters. I think finding coaches who have won at places like St. Peters (worst job in the MAAC) and Seton Hall is really important. We will never be the school with the most $$ backing the team. I think our identity as a city fits the underdog. Holloway seems to have his kids ready to play with an edge.

He’s not going anywhere. We aren’t Duke. They will just chalk it up as normal growing pains under a new head coach, Aka we don’t want to pay a lot of money for a good coach and probably never will.
Sadly I agree. Autry doesn't seem to be too worried about the teams free throw woes which is shocking. Perhaps JW has already informed him there will be a 4th season.

He’s gone this year under the criteria and last night I think he started to realize it.

Shaheen Holloway !

Holloway’s teams play hard.

Seton Hall lacks meaningful N$L to compete but Holloway

If Holloway was at SU with the boatload of N$L that SU offers then SU would be very- very good.

Would be Shaheen’s opportunity to make up for not picking us out of High School lol.

I like Skinn. His teams have great defenses. We need a good defensive foundation. Plus he is young and when he played he punched a Hofstra player in the groin.

Nah, Capel will be available after this season, let's go with him.
Staying with ex Pitt coaches, let's see if the always cheerful Paul Evans will come out of retirement. Ithaca College graduate who also coached at St Lawrence keeping with the local flavor.

I’m not sure “no one” knows about it. The varsity, Faegans and Marshall street plan has been pretty well discussed for the last 5 years+
