Coach Search Options after Autry

Saint Louis about to beat a good Richmond team by 30 to go to 17-1. Ironically Saint Louis and George Mason are in the same conference but only play each other once: the last game of the regular season. Also, South Florida plays on ESPNU tomorrow. Hodgson has them at 11-6 right now.
No Hodgson!

I would love Shaheen H. as long as the Cuse upper management would forgive the TThompson fiasco. He's a damn good coach and would have the Dome rocking.
He already spurned us for Seton Hall once back in 1996. Idk if he’d do it again.

It’s his Alma mater and ACC basketball jobs aren’t better than Big east in 2025 revenue sharing landscape. Same thing could be argued about A10 unless you’re talking top tier p4 $ such as Kentucky IU Texas tech Arkansas USC Texas Etc

This is my worry with our coaching search. Schools you would think are below us in the pecking order actually are not and may be even more attractive to potential candidates than our situation. Times have changed.
And we are to blame for this by allowing the decline and mediocrity. The people in charge who make the decisions royally screwed up.

I go back and forth on Hodgson. Though I would never have to question his passion to get Syracuse back.
Id take Hodgson in a heartbeat. Outside of the big 3 (schertz, skinn, Hodgson) and the local guys that times have likely passed on (Gmac, Langel), what other options are out there?

This is a high pressure job and that is a turn off for some. We need someone who can handle the pressure and thrive under it. We need someone who is brash.

I’m not sure what that says about the state of our program if we can’t even garner interest from him. He’s at SLU for Christ’s sake.
He could have a million reasons for it. I turned down better jobs than the one I accepted back in the day because of where I wanted to be. Maybe the NE just isn't what he wants. That doesn't necessarily say anything about Cuse.

We'll have some awesome candidates. Right now I like Schertz the most and will be disappointed if he's not the guy, but we'll be just fine.

This is Wildhack’s responsibility and mandate: Sell the Syracuse coaching job to the best candidate on the market (Schertz) and make it as attractive as possible by lining up significant promises from NIL donors, university resources and showing the candidate the unlimited potential of the job with the amount of money that can be brought in with a full JMA Dome. The Big12 is a hard conference to win. Syracuse has the potential to be one of the top jobs in the ACC. I just don’t think that’s true for Cincy in the Big 12. Wildhack has to out maneuver these other schools. That’s his job. The only school that could potentially be above us in the pecking order would be UNC if Hubert gets the boot.

Yep, I mean we are two years from Scott Drew turning down UK.

100 percent agree. This is a sell job for Wildhack in a much different way than hiring Fran Brown.

His cbb Discord. He was pretty certain of it.
Where is this discord, would be interested in following it but can’t seem to find it. Keep getting an error it doesn’t exist. Did he get rid of it?

Fill the Dome, get the excitement back, and bring in Bruce Pearl on a 5 year $40M contract.

Got to invest money to make money; we have the largest basketball arena to fill so we lose the most revenue when the dome is empty

Pearl had SEC money to support him. That can’t be highlighted enough. He would make an ass of himself and the program before the end of year 1

Many universities have endowed men’s basketball head coaching endowments.

Duke, Ga Tech, the Ivy’s, Stanford, Dayton, Univ. of Rochester, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Purdue, Michigan, Notre Dame, North Carolina etc all have endowments funding their head basketball coaching jobs. Many others don’t publicly advertise if their coaches are endowed positions.

So it will be interesting to what the process will look like for the coaching search and I think who is involved will make a difference and how information is delivered. For example presumably we will need to be ready to spend big on salary and provide assurances around institutional support. Is there an athletics subcommittee on the board led by a guy like Mike Tirico (sp?) who would speak directly to a short list HCs on Syracuse support for/sell the program? Can be an escalation for a salary sign off. Will Wildhack set either one off or group interactions between shortlist HCs and program investors/alumni so the coach hears directly the kind of support he would get financially for players? I think how Syracuse goes through its selling process with prospective HCs can/would make an impact in convincing the coach we really want. Also what if any facility refinements should be done in advance of visits. I am not sure how updated certain things are and does Syracuse spend some money in advance on perhaps ice baths for players, new stair masters, maybe updated lockers for players.
