Coach Search Options after Autry

People are talking about Schertz, maybe why not look at Tony Skinn of George Mason. He has ties to the DMV area. Was an asst’t at Ohio St, Seton Hall, Maryland before George Mason. Younger than Schertz - whether that’s considered good or bad.
Skinn isn’t really proven like Schertz. He’s only been a head coach for three seasons. Schertz has built three different program at three different levels, and has done it faster at each stop. Schertz also has a well-developed offensive system/philosophy that he’s implemented at each place. And his defense is pretty damn good too. With the portal, recruiting is just less important now, so DMVS ties seem less relevant, but Schertz has proven that he can get good players too.

There’s been plenty of talk about Skinn throughout this thread. Consensus is he’s the 2nd best option behind Schertz. Honestly, I think he ends up as our next HC for a variety of factors.
Love the DMV connections with him.

Jerrod Calhoun Utah State another hot coaching name.

Schools I expect to be hiring:

BC
Pitt
providence
Georgetown
cincy
ND
Wake forest
Penn state
Memphis
Arizona state

Potential:
K state, Kentucky, Michigan st, Oregon, UCLA, South Carolina, LSU, Oklahoma
Add KU as a slight potential as well. Bill Self is not super healthy, at some point his family is going to talk him out of dying on the court.

I have no problems with Schertz but I see that Skinn has been at universities, admittedly as an assistant, that are high pressure, high expectation environments at high level recruiting P5 universities - Seton Hall, Maryland, Ohio St etc. He has experience in a favored recruiting area also, the DMV. In his 2nd year at George Mason- last year, his team beat Schertz’s team for the conference regular season championship and this year both of their teams are currently tied for 1st. Schertz is older (50) while Skinn is younger (42) with both on a very successful path. However I realize that there are no sure things regarding coaching predictions.

Schertz willl have better options. Unfortunately, this job has been run into the ground in the past few years.
Someone who grew up in Brooklyn and was in his 20s when cuse was cooking and won a natty, I imagine he would view the opportunity here fondly. He knows what we have been and where we can go (I assume). This is an EXCELLENT job in basketball. I wouldn’t say there’s many better options out there personally.

I’d love to agree with you but outside of the dome what sets us apart? NIL / portal have become an equalizer. Regional recruiting doesn’t matter nearly as much as it used to

This job has literally never really been on the open market. ACC coaches view it as a top 6 job in the conference even today fwiw.
True but that doesn’t take into account conferences with more money (SEC / B1G) and Big East which can put a much larger % of revenue sharing into basketball than football schools

Used to be a top 15 job in the country.

Don't see us getting Schertz. Skinn and maybe Luke Murray should be at the top of the "realistic" list.

Not sure about third party NIL, but atleast revenue sharing. I read somewhere last year that the ACC is putting a higher percentage of revenue to Basketball than the SEC and Big Ten.

We need to sell that we are a sleeping giant. I get your point, but a new exciting coach should spike NIL initially and get a lot of support I believe.

I would go all-in on Schertz, whatever it takes. I would have already started the process now. He checks most if not all the boxes we should be looking for to be honest. No need to mess around.

My only real question would be how he intends to fundraise or expand NIL funding at the Power Four level. (Worded different but something around that)
