Coach Search Options after Autry

I think that I have moved Hodgson to first on my preferred list with Schertz and Skinn following.

I think Hogdson plays a fun style that would be what we have been missing in the Done for a long time! I think he will recruit very well and given resources to succeed.

This also reminds me a little of Fran, Hodgson I believe wants this job! His favorite team growing up, you can’t tell me he didn’t picture himself I. jB’s shoes growing up. With his energy and passion for Cuse hoops, also being an outsider, I think it could work out very well!
For sure, the last part matters to me and should matter to everyone in a close call. He does remind me of Fran and he has head coaching experience, building up two programs now. To me the next guy question is becoming more obvious by the day. South Florida closing out this season strong will only further get everyone on board and excited. Like they haven’t even announced a leadership change and who the next leader is yet, but I’m already getting energized and excited about it lol.

I'm still hoping Schertz or Skinn as 1a or 1b, but Hodg the Shark is certainly solid at 2. He seems like a HC that is still figuring out how to be his best HC to a degree, but I have confidence he is going to figure it all out (plus he has the bonus ties to the area, Freeman's lead recruiter at bama, extra bonus tangibles...)

Schertz and Skinn have figured it out and are just aces-high ready for P4 job.

It would be great to have a coach where there wasn't a feeling that he is looking towards the next gig. Of course, successful coaches are always getting poached so I guess you never know.

Give me Murray over Schertz and Skinn. Fine with Hodgsen. These are still fairly underwhelming names. It’s amazing how far we’ve fallen. We should still start by throwing insane numbers at Jay Wright or Tony Bennett. Sure, they won’t take it, but show the fans and alumni we are still a blueish blood.

Dream job?

Zero inside knowledge, though I think he would retain and actively try to retain a lot more of this roster than many people would think. The players at Syracuse are good they just need good coaching. I’m more sure of it now than even last season when Syracuse didn’t have as much talent of how much this team is held back by the littlest things.

His system would require a different type of point guard than George which would be a good thing. Players like Kingz and Kyle would be great his type of system.

Regarding George, maybe, but maybe not. I’m still really high on him and he could thrive in an up tempo system where it’s actually always up tempo. He has spots on the floor where he can knock down shots consistently where if he sticks too it, he will shoot a higher percentage. Whether it’s the rest of this season, here with a new coach, or a different team, I honestly still view him as a really good player. His dumb turnovers are a lack of direction and help.

Scherz is going to be in high demand from who? What schools are firing coaches this year?
We won't be the only P5 opening. Every year there are several openings.

Early rumors include N Carolina, Ohio State, Arizona St., Pitt, BC, ND, Cincy, Kansas St, Oregon St.

Altman retiring at Oregon? Kansas - smoke about Bill Self retiring. Same for Houston and Mich St. Who knows how likely those retirements will be, but they would all be high profile openings that might cause someone like Schertz to wait to see what opens up.

I'd be happy with Hodgson. For Schertz is it that he prefers the Midwest, or is there something specific about Cuse that gives him pause? Does anyone know?
I want a coach that wants to be here. If Hodgson wants to be here the most and he’s one of the best candidates, then I’ll be very supportive.

I still think Skinn is a slightly better fit, but it’s just based on instinct and nothing more.

The new coach to me HAS to be a proven head coach to me first. Recruiting now is overrated. Autry is a good to very good recruiter and where has that gotten him?

Hodgson feels like a good fit on paper but would like to see a year or two more coaching acumen from him.

Shertz seems like the easy #1 option if he wants to come here.

Luke Murray we have no idea if he can actually be a head coach and frankly we can't take the chance in my opinion.

"Retread" is often thought of in a negative light but it could make an awful lot of sense to go that route. Maybe we catch someone at the right time and they want to stay put for their rest of their career like Rick Barnes has done at Tennessee. Chris Mack, Travis Steele, Johnny Dawkins, etc. I also think Wildhack with his connections COULD pull a rabbit out of a hat and maybe get some inside info that a bigger name would be interested in a change of scenery.
