Coach Search Options after Autry

They are one of the few schools that can hire from any other school. Maybe they would hire Schertz but they could easily afford anyone.

Hodgson attaching himself to Lally isn't by chance. Sure, there's a philanthropic component because he's from upstate, but let's not kid ourselves here. He's playing the game. Frankly, that's needed these days.

Doing whatever it takes to get this job shouldn't be lost on us if we can't land Schertz or Skinn. He wants Cuse, and wants it bad.

I want a coach that wants to be here. He will take less $ than a Schertz would, and would get more from Lally. That gives us more NIL $ to work with

turning down Syracuse for St. John’s would be enough for me to know where we stand nationally.

He would turn us down. He would rather live in nyc than upstate and big east doesn’t split revenue share with football so there’s more resources to work with

We won't be the only P5 opening. Every year there are several openings.

Early rumors include N Carolina, Ohio State, Arizona St., Pitt, BC, ND, Cincy, Kansas St, Oregon St.

Altman retiring at Oregon? Kansas - smoke about Bill Self retiring. Same for Houston and Mich St. Who knows how likely those retirements will be, but they would all be high profile openings that might cause someone like Schertz to wait to see what opens up.

Hoiberg went to Iowa State and grew up in Ames. "The Mayor"...

He was the coach at ISU before taking the head coaching job with the Bulls. Wasn’t successful in the NBA but seems to have found a good landing spot at NU. Nebraska is about as close as you can get to Ames without moving back to Iowa.

He’s a Southern Tier kid, so you have to think he grew up as an SU basketball fan. Probably his dream job. With his connections to Lally and other factors, you’d have to think he’d go after the job hard once Red is fired.

I want a guy that wants to be here. He checks that box.

I do think he’s more attainable than Schertz. Probably on an equal level to Skinn.

The fact that we have zero commitments for next season would make one think they’re not recruiting. Seems like all efforts will be focused on at the portal.

He won’t be a target for SU. Seems like a natural target for Kansas if/when Self retires.

Personally I’m getting excited for the new coach and the inevitable housecleaning. I think the decisionmakers learned alot from what works based on Fran Brown’s hiring and how to play the offseason game. And really what not to do ie how the boeheim era ended.

Autry just was too much of a basic run of the mill HC you see all over the midmajors and in my opinion was not well respected or known to the broader hoops community. A players coach to the end and the root of his downfall as a HC. Still 3 years later I look at our staff and see a line of Good Cops and No Bad Cops. I see Autry who after 3 years is too indecisive and Just doesn’t have the instincts for the big chair.

The worst thing that was ever floated around the hill during the Autry tenure was that it was just enough to just make a 68 team tournament. The Orange standard and meaningful games in March were joke statements all along and setup a culture mediocrity.

The next coach I have confidence will have the instincts and will be given the tools to not just be pretty good. The expectation is to win it all not just hope for the best.

The offseason is going to be hyped.

Also won’t hurt if Lacrosse takes home a Natty and Angeli wins a Heisman as a lead up to Hoops.

and a Syracuse Women’s Basketball trip to the tournament in the category of won’t hurt. I want to see Syracuse winning! Championship culture again in the 315! I’m tired of the inferiority complex that many fall into the trap of when things don’t go Syracuse way. Screw that, always look on how to move forward better. Take the post Angeli slide out of the way, many dreamed a guy like Fran for years to recruit and operate the Syracuse program with the swagger he has and besides that time frame of game results after the injury, he has delivered each and every time so far.

Red had the desire to bring Syracuse back, he just lacked the ability.

Hodgson has been linked to SU since the fall as a possible replacement. Gotta believe he will be among the front runners.

Takayo Siddle, UNC Wilmington is an interesting name to track for ACC openings. Headed for 5th straight 20 win season (18-3 currently). 39 years old. Plays aggressive style at both ends. Has done well with NIL. Played and coached at NC State.
