Coach Search Options after Autry

Goodman is such a hack. What a lazy take from him. He'd probably recommend Schertz for any opening. If it comes down to Syracuse vs. Providence, what coach in their right mind would choose Providence?

Well of course he’s going to suggest schertz for everyone. He was asked about the Providence job. If he was asked about any P5 job he’d say the same. Just makes sense

Dook is doing pretty well with the assistant they hired.
Not all HC's are qualified and not all AC's should be eliminated.
We need a thorough search for the most qualified person we can afford. Sometimes the assistant is the brains behind the operation. See Clemson football after the DC left.

I understand it from an optics standpoint and our situation, but I think it would be foolish not to consider someone just because they don’t have head coaching experience.

I disagree that we should seriously consider a ass't coach. I think there is a good chance that Murray becomes a really good head coach. However, he has never built a staff. He has never run a major operation like ours. Just too much risk when we can hire a proven Head Coach.

You can find anecdotal examples but the prevailing normal of successful teams in this new era (ignoring the Izzos, selfs, fews of the world) have been HCs before their major P5 stop. Which makes sense, leading a program in the NIL era goes well beyond coaching

Some of that is allowing JB to run the program off a cliff at the end, and hiring a guy who set the wreckage at the bottom of the cliff on fire.

Recruits today have no recollection of Syracuse being relevant. That is not good.

Dickie V all over how wrong it is for a G League player to be on the court for Alabama, as well as Oats' lame excuse. He could also have mentioned Oats playing the guy who gave a gun to his teammate who used it to commit murder. Prince of a guy that Oats.

Maybe Oats would be looking to leave his Alabama baggage behind him and also to get out of the tough SEC?

Here we go with the airing of grievances again. Yes we get it and yes everyone is right.

How do we fix it? Top tier coaches and players. And winning.

Experience alone is normally a pretty bad indicator of job performance. And it’s highly unlikely that we’ll hire someone who has run a major operation like ours, anyway. Choices are likely:
1) someone who has run a much smaller operation not like ours.
2) someone who has helped someone run a major operation like ours.

FWIW - I do think option 1 is better, but I hope they don’t ignore a good candidate who is under option 2.
