I think Fran would be a good resource for the next basketball coach to talk to in regards to NIL. Not sure what that has to do with him having input on who the next coach should be.

His name is Jim Crutchfield. He's 69 years old but I can't get over his career record. The guy is 581 and 87. That an 87% career winning %

He's 222–26 (.895) at Nova Southeastern with 2 National Championships.

That’s why I like Schertz. He turned a D2 school into a national power on that level. But then he went and proved himself on the D1 level at a mid major and turned that program around, then moved up to a higher mid major and is winning there. I’ve read only a little bit about Crutchfield and he sounds like nothing but a winner. Bo Ryan had a similar trajectory. Went from building a D3 power with multiple national championships to a mid major and then turning Wisconsin into a consistent winner. The big issue is that Crutchfield is 69. His age makes me very nervous. Some interesting info here.

Was in reference to both the 20 mil and the Lally's. The Lally's being Fran's biggest donor but also having ties to potentially giving more NIL to Hodgson for hoops.

Let's say the Lally's give 2 mil a year now for football and they say well we're going to give hoops 2 mil this year too. We're just drawing from the same family.

I'm sure Fran wants a relevant basketball HC and team but also I'm sure he wants as much NIL from the big donors as well.

Not saying Fran should decide and run it by Saban. Just a courtesy keep him looped in. It impacts his program too and there's alot of eggs in the basket to have big year next year for football too.

Alternate perspective: my opinion is that any confident coach is going to think that they are going to turn things around. And given that the program has been on the downturn, it isn't reasonable to think that we're going to be at the top of our game in terms of NIL funding. Any up and coming coach is going to come in here with an insane amount of confidence in their capabilities, believing that they have what it takes to improve performance, drive ticket sales upward, increase fan base engagement and support, which will in turn lead to increased NIL and much higher ticket / gate proceeds to further help feed the beast.

I don't think it is going to be the other way around, where a coach is going to demand the NIL money up front, and decline on that basis alone. I think it is much more likely that someone's going to look at our tradition, see that we have the biggest arena in collegiate basketball, and have an insane amount of confidence in their ability to pack the dome and turn things around. That doesn't mean that our opportunity is for EVERYBODY, or that there might be some coaches who would eschew the northeast out of preference for jobs in other parts of the country.

But I'm guessing that any candidate with the chops might look at the current state, see that we're in the top 5 in NIL within the ACC conference, and think that they can work with that by providing a better on-court product than what we're seeing under Autry. There's more than one way to skin a cat; out-spending everybody in terms of NIL is one strategy, but it is CERTAINLY NOT the only way to be successful.

I think people get locked into these false dichotomies of only being black and white, A versus B, when the answer is probably in the middle:

If a coach can build it, the fans will come. And so will NIL $$$'s.

But people seem to be mixing "NIL" with financial support to build a support staff. Two different things, and again -- our NIL issues are not incapability to provide support, they are not systemic. The pervasive dissatisfaction from the fanbase is primarily based upon the incredibly poor product on the court, which has gotten steadily worse over a decade of near-irrelevancy, and is bottoming out. That will change when we get someone in charge who is competent. Which in turn will generate enthusiasm to support the program.

I don't want to ever hear the word "Build" again. There is no "Build." All players are on a 1 year contract now thanks to whatever idiots decided this. Whoever gets this job DAMN well better win next year.
