Coach Search Options after Autry

So, I’ve been reading a lot of this thread. A lot of opinions, speculation, wild rumors. Nothing with any news value. Most people don’t have a clue. I certainly know I don’t.

Based on all the information, especially from our insiders most “in the know”, I’m confident we will be hiring someone who isn’t an alum or tied to Boeheim.

That’s been relatively easy to assume since there isn’t a lot of good candidates in that category.

If he had any head coaching experience I’d agree. We just can’t take a chance on someone without head coaching experience right after Autry.

Jerrod Calhoun has 13 years experience as a HC. I have not seen him linked to SU. Hodgson has been linked to SU for some time.

Calhoun has more head coaching experience than Hodgson? He has a 653 winning percentage overall but last two years at Utah State he as a .814 winning percentage and is 22-3 so far this year. In Fairmont State he as Division 2 title game. Last year he was in the NCAA tournament with Utah State

The new coach won’t have much time to build a strong roster. Here’s a top 50 kid who might come with Hodgson. He’s not involved with any ACC schools.

Don’t disagree, just don’t think we can afford to take a chance on an assistant coach with this hire IMO.

Yeah Syracuse doesn't have the luxury of hiring a coach with no HC experience at this stage. I mean that shouldn't even be a question. GMac isn't close to the solution either sorry but not sorry. Some fans have this fantasy of GMac the player becoming GMac the SU coach. GMac hasn't done enough as HC yet. Kudos to his results this year so far but he needs a larger resume.

Whoever we get I hope the admin is thinking about next years team. If we can retain Kingz, White, Betsy, Anthony, Suore, George we will have a great nucleus. Freeman will most likely be gone even if not ready. Then we would need to pay premium to replace Kyle and Freeman. I don’t think we can afford to start from zero….Thoughts?

Would love to retain a couple of those guys, but new coach needs autonomy to do what he wants

That's my reading. Bama was a finalist because of Hodgson.

Dead shooter, don’t forget Luke Fennel. Also whomever comes in may have some to follow. If they are to be factored in you need another center and PF. My

Agree on Hodgson. I think ultimately he gets the job because he wants it and understands what he's getting into. Having the support of Lally is a building block that perhaps others don't have.

The first question any candidate has about us, is our NIL budget. I don't think GMAC is convinced we have what it take$ to compete in the ACC consistently. He's not alone. It's a concern others have.

Anybody who thinks someone is going to take this job and worry about the NIL after is grossly out of touch with today's environment.

Let me short circuit those who think i'm blaming this year's results on NIL. I'm not. We have the players this year to compete. We had the NIL last off season to compete. Its coaching failure that we're not in the ncaa tourney discussion.

But the next guy might not have last year's NIL budget. He might not have Alex Kline to lean into. He's going to have a new AD (that likely will not have the support to move in a different direction at his immediate discretion though).

We have a challenge ahead of us.

We are now giving out jobs based on who wants in more. It is incredible.

That is correct and how I remember it going down. So Hodgson would have a great relationship with Freeman and Freeman's team. Again don't know if Syracuse wants Freeman to stay or if Freeman wants to stay but we would have a better chance of keeping him if we hired Hodgson.

Actually Lally would be the best bet. Given the relationship supposedly in place, you would think that would create some bank for Hodgson.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I could see a scenario where none of the players on this year's team come back next year.

The new staff could decide to go in a different direction from George or think that he's overpaid, who knows with Kiyan, White was an Autry guy, the Betsey camp has been disgruntled, and Souare would probably bail if George does. And Freeman might bail to go to a winner / team that can help elevate his draft status.

If the new staff wants to clean house, could be a full rebuild.

Not a prediction, just saying it could legitimately happen.
